Sanford, 1996

Pinot Noir, Rita Hills, Santa Barbara

A long, moderate growing season allowed for even ripening of the fruit resulting in a wine with soft, ripe tannins and wonderful balance. This impressive Pinot Noir offers wild strawberry fruit, cola, clove spice, a hint of black pepper, and just the right touch of toasty oak. Now fully mature, this wine would not benefit from further ageing.

Quinta do Poco do Lobo, 1995

Quinta Poço do Lobo - Cabernet, Bairrada | Excellent Provenance
91 Points - Robert Parker
Special Offer | Was £79 | Now £59

The 1995 Quinta Poço do Lobo from caves St Joao are an exceptional experience at a nice price. Plus, the provenance is perfect—re-released direct from the winery.

The 1995 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserva Quinta do Poço do Lobo is unoaked and comes in at 13.5% alcohol. This Reserva has more power than the regular reds and much riper fruit. It is bigger and fresher in every respect. Intense and powerful, this is nuanced by cassis and red fruits. It ends with a big finish. There are some typical nuances of aging Cab too. So, while it is fresh for its age, it hardly tastes like a young red. Many will consider that a good thing.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1994

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 91 Points - Robert Parker ***

The wine exhibits a dense, saturated purple color, followed by a classic Mouton nose of sweet black fruits intermingled with smoke, pain grillee, spice, and cedar. Medium to full-bodied, with outstanding concentration, a layered feel, plenty of tannin, and rich, concentrated fruit, this wine is similar to the fine 1988. Anticipated maturity: 2005-2025. By the way, the Dutch artist, Appel, has created a gorgeous label for the 1994. Although Mouton-Rothschild can be among the most inconsistent first-growths,

Barbaresco, 1991

Renzo Odicino

1991 Barbaresco – Renzo Odicino (Piedmont, Italy)

A quietly beautiful, fully mature Barbaresco that favours perfume and finesse over power. Brick-garnet with a tawny rim, it lifts with dried cherry and cranberry, rose petal and violet, cedar, leather and sweet tobacco, with a hint of orange peel and tea leaf. The palate is elegant and savoury: red-cherry fruit carried by lively acidity; tannins are fine and resolved, giving silk rather than grip. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, dried flowers and gentle spice.

From carefully selected, well-stored bottles, this shows the ethereal side of Nebbiolo—more incense and dried flowers than muscle—making it a superb bottle for refined, slow meals and conversation.
