Taylor's Port, 2007

Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha

The 2007 Taylor Vargellas Vinha Velha is a more introverted Taylor’s Vintage, an earthy bouquet with touches of orange essence developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good backbone, quite reserved and composed at the moment. This is not a flamboyant Vinha Velha, but there is a very attractive, slightly biscuity quality towards the finish. Superb. The Vinha Vehla are five plots located in the heart of Quinta de Vargellas. The vines being between 80 and 120 years of age. Strict selection has led to a wine of stunning complexity, power and richness. This is one that will be at its peak 50 years hence.

Taylor's Port, 2007

Vintage Port

96 Points Wine Advocate
This 2007 Vintage Port is opaque, purple black in colour with a narrow violet rim. Characteristically stylish and racy, with a nose of dense blackcurrant and woodland fruit overlaid with discreet herbal nuances and scents of violet and rose petals. As usual, the classic Taylor elegance and understatement conceal the wine’s energy and vigour. On the palate, it displays the lean, sinewy and tightly knit tannins, which are so much a feature of the Taylor style, and the vibrant and clearly delineated fruit flavours, which are the hallmark of the 2007 vintage.

Reviews: "The 2007 Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port is a blend of multiple sites meant to express the house style in a great year.

Barolo, 2006

La Spinetta - Campè

93-points Antonio Galloni, The Wine Advocate “The 2006 Barolo Campe’ is one of the most elegant wines I have ever tasted from La Spinetta. A deep, translucent red, the Campe’ opens with a captivating bouquet of roses, spices, flowers and cherries, all of which resonate on the palate. The wine turns muscular in the glass, with powerful tannins that frame the expressive, generous fruit. There is plenty of richness and concentration, yet without the over-ripeness and excessive oakiness of past vintages. Smoke, tar and herbs are just some of the nuances that come to life as the dense fruit provides a wonderful foil to the tannins on the finish.

Chateau Bel Air, 2006

St Emilion Grand Cru Classe
Magnum 150cl

A 2006 St Emilion Grand Cru Classe red wine magnum bottle.

Now under full control of the Moueix family, with Christian Moueix's son Edouard managing the estate, and their new technical director Eric Murisasco is making the wine.
In 2006 the Moueix family did not own the estate outright, but did have some influence, and the 2006 is certainly a good effort, with notes of kirsch liqueur, crushed rock, and some subtle herbs. (Robert Parker - Wine Advocate - Apr 05)

Chateau Gruaud Larose, 2006

St Julien 2me Cru Classe

A 2006 Chateau Gruaud Larose Red Wine
*** 91 Points - Wine Journal ***

"This is an impressive showing for Gruaud-Larose under blind conditions. It has a reserved, cedar, leafy nose with good definition and poise with good lift – very Pauillac in style with the Cabernet driving it along. The palate is full-bodied, very well balanced with good acidity. Firm tannins, ripe and elegant, very well poised on the briary finish. Charming. Tasted January 2010." Neil Martin, Wine Journal.

Dow's Port, 2006

Quinta Senhora da Ribeira

The 2006 Vintage Port Wine from Dow's is a deep dark colour. The nose is dominated by ripe berry fruit aromas with a layer of spice giving great complexity. The mouth is very structured with a long and lingering fresh peppery finish.

Quinta da Senhora da Ribeira is set in the remote, hot and dry Douro Superior and commands a magnificent north bank position, overlooking a broad sweep of the Douro. Senhora da Ribeira’s wines are some of the finest in the Douro and they complement those from Bomfim in the composition of Dow’s classic Vintage Ports. The latter would be incomplete if one of the two was absent.

Quinta do Vesuvio Vintage Port, 2006

Vintage Port

The Quinta Do Vesuvio Vintage Port 2006, was 'declared' as a vintage by the shipper.

Classic power with a lovely violet-scented and peppery nose and delicious layers of opulent blackberry fruit within a finely structured tannin framework that ensures very good aging potential. The hot summer of 2006 has added an additional layer of concentration to the traditional Vesuvio velvety richness and depth. This is a very great Vesuvio Vintage Port.

This most beautifully located quinta (farm), down on the water's edge of the River Douro has been revitalised by the Symington family. This is a major 'house' that continues the tradition of treading the grapes in the ancient stone 'lagares' (troughs).

Ambassade de Sauternes, 2005

Grand Vin De Bordeaux
Half-bottle 37.5cl

The 2005 Ambassade de Sauternes is a bright gold colour. Perfectly balanced. Not sweet, and yet explosively sweet with flavors of fresh nectarine, scents of jasmine and honeysuckle. The sweetness pours out of the freshness, so it's impossible to taste them apart. The flavors last, perhaps because it's the kind of wine you'll want to roll around in your mouth over and over.

Chateau Branaire-Ducru, 2005

St Julien, 4th Growth Classification

*** 95 Points - Robert Parker ***

From the classic 2005 vintage this is one of the greatest Chateau Branaire-Ducru's bottled and a flamboyant and expressive example of St Julien. Highly rated by the critics and for good reason. The wine is structured and rich, full bodied and harmonic.

The wine is still young and will drink best after 2020.

Robert Parker- 95 Points

"As usual, the 2005 Branaire-Ducru is one of the more distinctive wines of St.-Julien. Proprietor Patrick Maroteaux has turned out another classic. While not as opulent or fleshy as the 2003, and it remains to be seen if it will eclipse the 2000,

Chateau Ferriere, 2005

Margaux 3rd Growth Classification

The 2005 Chateau Ferriere is now in its optimum drinking window. The smallest property of all the Cru Classs, this little-known estate has become one of the best kept secrets in the Medoc. This is partly down to the fact that it was, until very recently, distributed exclusively in France. With its high percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon this is reminiscent of a mini-Ch. Margaux in style. It has excellent concentration and is quite masculine for a Margaux yet polished.
