Quinta de la Rosa, 2003

Vintage Port

La Rosa's classic house style achieved by slow maceration in traditional granite 'Lagares' has produced a wine full of luscious forward fruit with a very attractive nose and a long velvety slightly drier finish across the palate

La Rosa is a vertically integrated Quinta rising to 450 metres above sea level, boasting many hidden micro climates within its cirtilage. Where possible we vintage and mature these small 'lotes' separately in order to achieve the maximum complexity in the finished ports, which would not have been possible from a less diversely planted property.

Quinta do Noval Port, 2003

Vintage Port

An outstanding 2003 vintage Port Wine.
Reviews: "The inky, purple-colored, opaque 2003 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port soars from the glass, revealing dates, black cherries, copious flowers, and plums. Full-bodied, broad, and lush, this top-flight wine is harmonious and exhibits stupendous purity of fruit. Blueberries, cherries, and candied strawberries can be found in its nuanced, lengthy, plum-laced core as well as in its immensely long, dried berry-tinged finish. Drink this beauty between 2020 and 2045+." - 94 / 100 points, P Rovani, eRobert Parker.

Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port, 2003

Vintage Port

A 2003 vintage Port Wine. The structured, ungenerous dark ruby-colored 2003 Smith Woodhouse Vintage Port offers a nose of tobacco, smoke, and black fruits. Its tannic character exhibits flavors of stones, black plums, blackberries, boysenberries, and hints of cigar box. Appealingly expressive yet firm, this wine softened slightly over a 4 day period, revealing notes of spicy molasses. It will be at its best between 2018 and 2028.

"Purplish crimson. Vigorous, savoury, not especially sweet. Grown-up vintage port. Lovely weight and integration. Already hints at complex flavours to come. Great charge of all the elements needed.

Warre's Vintage Port, 2003

Vintage Port

A vintage 2003 Port Wine from Warre's Vintage Port. Warre's Port was first founded by two Englishmen in 1670.

"Black pepper, sealing wax, spices, and toast are found in the nose of the potentially exceptional 2003 Warre Vintage Port. A concentrated, backward effort, its youthful, classically ungenerous, masculine character reveals black pepper laced dark fruits. Silky-textured in its immensely endowed mid-palate, this top-flight effort displays an admirably long, tannin-filled finish. It will require serious cellaring. Projected maturity: 2030-2050." - 93 / 100 points, Pierre Rovan, Wine Advocate.

2002 Burmester Port, 2002

Sale

Vintage Port
In Branded Gift Box
Special Offer | Was £69 | Now £49.95 PLEASE ALLOW 7 DAYS FOR DELIVERY

This 2002 Burmester Vintage Port from the very good 2002 Port Vintage has outstanding provenance! This bottle has been stored at the Burmester cellars on Porto since bottling until it was acquired by us earlier this year.

The 2002 Burmester is a beautiful mature tawny colour. On the nose it has cocoa, chocolate together with a hint of mint. On the palate this is quite complex - medium bodied with a perfect balance between the acidity, tannins and flavours, there is a little spiciness in the mouth that adds to the experience. Long, long finish. This is in a good place and should hold well for a couple of decades.

***Gold Medal – IWSC 2015***

***Wine Enthusiast 2015 – 95 Points***

***Wine Spectator 2015 – 94 Points***

Golden colour with green reflections. Characteristic bouquet of Madeira with exotic wood, dry fruits, dates, vanilla, cacau and finetoasted oak. Medium sweet and full bodied, with a long toffee and vanilla aftertaste.

Blandy’s Colheita Bual 2002 was aged for 12 years in seasoned American oak casks in the traditional ‘Canteiro’ system, wherebythe wine is gently heated by warm air in the lofts of the company’s south-facing lodge in Funchal. Over the years the casks aretransferred from the top floor to the middle floor and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler.

Chateau Charmail, 2002

Haut Medoc

The Chateau Charmail 2002 is still a very dark red in colour with no transparency, a hint of a watery rim! Nose of pure black currant fruits, quite intense and some leather, charming! Quite meaty on the palate, driven by the dark fruits, this echoing the nose very nicely, very complete! At this moment, I want a good slice of roast beef or braised oxtail, even cottage pie will pair it well!

94 Points (Wine Journal)

Reviews "One of the candidates for wine of the vintage, this beauty has a dense purple color to the rim and a classic, noble nose of graphite intermixed with black currant, spice box, licorice, and red and black fruits. Medium to full-bodied with exceptional precision and definition, this beautifully textured wine stands out as one of the most successful wines of this irregular vintage. A brilliant effort, it should be at its best between 2008 and 2020." PArker Wine Advocate, 2005

"Just a fantastic wine…clean, fresh, bright and bushy tailed on the nose with blackberry, raspberry, cedar-wood and a real palpable sense of terroir.

Dolcetto d'Alba, 2002

Terre Brune - Arione Angelo

A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Montepulciano, 2002

d'Abruzzo, Predella

Montepulciano is a red wine grape variety grown widely in central Italy, most notably its eastern Abruzzo, Marche and Molise regions. The variety was named after the Tuscan parish of Montepulciano, but, confusingly, is not used in the famous wines produced there (see Vino Nobile di Montepulciano). Globally appreciated for their soft flavors, strong color and gentle tannins, Montepulciano wines are typically best consumed in their youth and with food. The deep-purple juice of Montepulciano grapes is used in varying proportions to produce wines under roughly 50 of Italy's DOC and DOCG titles. Although sometimes used on its own,

Morellino di Scansano, 2002

New

Castariva

This style of Sangiovese differs from its northern brethren due to the ripeness levels it can achieve in southern Tuscany. The result is a rounder and more savory style of wine. Regulations stipulate that at least 85% of the wine must be made from this variety, with the rest coming from other permitted Tuscan red grapes. Unlike many DOCGs, this wine does not require ageing and can be released in the March after the harvest, less than eight months later; logically, this wine is characterized by lively freshness and crisp character. Other traits come in the form of cherry, pomegranate, plum, leather, cedar and spice notes.
