2002 Chateau Bernadotte

Haut Medoc
Special Offer | Was £34.95 | Now £24

A 2002 vintage Bordeaux Wine from Château Bernadotte. Château Bernadotte, Haut-Médoc, made fruity, chunky wine that has firm tannins and upfront cassis and plum fruit in 2002. During this vintage it was managed by the team at Château Pichon Lalande and they did a great job avoiding over-ripeness and jammy characters which were common in this hotter than usual vintage. The finish is medium but there is plenty of concentrated, forward, classic Medoc flavours to bring drinking pleasure now.

The Chateau Bernadotte vineyards lie in the commune of Saint Sauveur, which lies just outside the Pauillac appellation.

2002 Chateau Giscours

Margaux, 3rd Growth Classification

The 2002 Giscours has a herbaceous, earthy nose with truffle notes intermixed with sweet cherries, plums, and currants are present in this soft, medium garnet wine. The wine is already evolved and best drunk over the next 10-15 years. The wine's plushness, and the concentration is very good.

Jancis 17.5/20
Dense, compact very Cabernet nose. Round and lively. Very brilliant fruit. Tannins on the finish. Quite a classical structure. Should age well. Pretty dry on the finish at the moment. But long. Giscours is no longer cheap, alas, though the quality has risen considerably.

Blandys Madeira, 2002

Sercial Colheita Madeira (H/Litre, 50cl)

A 2002 vintage Colheita Madeira Wine from Blandy's Madeira. Golden colour with topaz reflections and complex and intense notes of
dried fruits, spices, and citrus aromas. Dry and fresh on the palate with along and spicy finish.

Blandy’s Sercial Colheita was aged in seasoned American oak casks in the traditional ‘Canteiro’ system, whereby the wine is gently heated by warm air in the lofts of the company’s south-facing lodge in Funchal. Over the years the casks are transferred from the top floor to the middle floor and eventually to the ground floor where it is cooler. The wine is regularly racked during the ageing process and is finally bottled when the desired balance of maturity is reached.

Chateau Haut Brion, 2002

Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe
Magnum (1.5 Lt)

A 2002 vintage Bordeaux Wine from Château Haut Brion. This is a magnum sized bottle.

*** 92-94 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews
"Whether it’s a coincidence, or because in relatively cool years the first-growth terroirs are brilliant, Haut-Brion has turned out a beautifully classic, medium-bodied, precise and focused 2002 boasting a deep ruby/purple color as well as strikingly elegant aromatics (crushed stones, plums, black cherries, currants, figs, and earth). The wine possesses impressively measured power and elegance offered in a medium-bodied, nicely-structured, exceptionally pure format.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2002

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

An outstanding 2002 vintage Bordeaux wine from Chateau Lafite Rothschild.
*** 94 Points Robert Parker ***
*** 94 Points Wine Journal ***

Reviews:
"A brilliant offering and a candidate for wine of the vintage, this is classic Lafite that reminded me somewhat of the 1976, although the vintage conditions were completely different. This is a medium-weight, quintessentially elegant style of Lafite with notes of lead pencil shavings/graphite along with blackcurrants, plums, and crushed rocks/mineral. Wonderfully pure, dense, with a deep ruby/purple color and loads of fruit, definition, and a long finish,

Chateau Lagrange, 2002

St Julien 3eme Cru Classe

The 2002 Chateau Lagrange is dense purple in color and surprisingly open-knit and velvety textured, the full-bodied, fleshy, succulently styled 2002 Lagrange is more accessible than most Northern Medocs. With low acidity, silky tannin, and loads of chocolatey black currant and cherry fruit as well as nicely integrated, toasty oak, this sensual wine should drink beautifully in 2-3 years and last for 15-18."

Chateau Monbousquet, 2002

Grand Cru, St Emilion, Bordeaux

*** 90 Points - Outstanding Robert Parker **

A strong performance in a difficult vintage, the 2002 Monbousquet (60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc) reveals abundant aromas of espresso, sweet black currants and cherries, damp earth, compost, and new oak. It is a medium to full-bodied, fleshy offering with light tannin as well as a long finish. Drink it over the next 10-12 years.

This is the home estate of Chantal and Gerard Perse, who have become the poster children for owners taking a less hallowed terroir and producing sumptuous, high quality wine. Readers should realize that Monbousquet is not meant to be cellared for 20-30 years.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2002

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

A vintage 2002 Bordeaux Wine from Château Mouton Rothschild.

*** 93 Points Robert Parker ***

"Dense purple to the rim, this wine exhibits the classic cassis aroma that is so characteristic of Mouton. Medium to full-bodied, tannic, powerful, and cut somewhat from the 1988 mold, this is a backward, chewy, well-endowed Mouton-Rothschild that will require considerable patience from those who purchase it. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, the wine needs a good decade of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030+." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 2005.

*** 91 Points - Wine Journal ***

Reviews:
"53% of the crop made it into this blend of 58% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc. An outstanding wine with a dark ruby/purple color and more power, richness, and concentration than its younger sibling, the 2002 reveals outstanding potential, exhibiting plenty of concentrated black currant fruit with some vanilla, herbs, and licorice. It has about the same level of tannin as the 2003, but seems to have sweeter fruit and more mid-palate and length.

Dolcetto d'Alba, 2002

Mosesco - Prunotto

A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Warre's Port, 2002

Bottle Matured Late Bottle Vintage In Gift Box

The 2002 LBV from Warre's is still made in the traditional way - bottled unfiltered then aged for a number of years before being released only when it is ready. As a result, it is vastly superior to most other LBV Ports, and a brilliant value substitute for full Vintage Port.

The 2002 is full-bodied, rich and sweet; deep, dark fruit flavours; long, elegant finish.
Because it is unfiltered, this LBV should be decanted to leave the sediment behind.

This prolonged bottle ageing is crucial to the development of the superb “nose” and flavour which lend this Port a style and complexity very much akin to that of Vintage Port.

Assaje, 2001

Capichera - Giovanella e Alberto Ragnedda

The Ragneddas have resided in the town of Arzachena in the Gallura zone of Capichera since the 19th century. Situated on the northeastern coast of the island of Sardegna, Gallura is known for its important history of viticulture; new research has revealed that it may have been the origin of wine cultivation in Europe millennia ago. However, over time, there hadn't been an established producer that was respected for its consistently high quality wines. That is until 1970, when the Ragnedda family decided to convert some of its pastures to vineyards and founded ‘Capichera’. They released their first wine made from the native Vermentino grape in 1980.

September had replenishing rains at the beginning of the month. The harvest started in the second decade and was dry and cold. Grapes were mature rich in colour extracts and acidity. We produced both the “Annata” and the “Riserva”. Only grapes that come from the Estate vineyards are vinified. One should Uncork and pour out a bit of wine from the bottles at least 8 hours before serving.

Chateau Branaire-Ducru, 2001

St Julien, 4th Growth Classification

A 2001 vintage Bordeaux wine. "First tasted in May 2002 out of barrel when it displayed a lush, spicy, ripe nose with a tang of orange peel. Another fine bottle in November 2003: a dense ripe nose with a touch of orange peel and anis. The palate displays fine concentration with good acidity, lots of tobacco and blackberry with a peppery finish. Very harmonious. Superb. Then at the IMW tasting in November 2005. I have always enjoyed this Branaire-Ducru since en primeur. A rich, opulent nose of sweet black fruits, orange zest and mocha, perhaps a little too open than I would like at this primordial stage.

*** 93 Points Robert Parker ***

wA beautiful effort, the 2001 Cos d’Estournel (65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot) exhibits a poised, noble bouquet of black currants, cedar, spice box, and liquorice. A hint of truffles emerges as it sits in the glass. Medium-bodied with sweet fruit (mostly black) and nicely integrated wood, it builds incrementally in the mouth, ending with a 50-second finish.
