Nebbiolo, 1990

di Luras, Cantina Sociale Gallura

The Nebbiolo has a lovely earthy bouquet. The nose has cherries, dark cherries, tar and slight dried rose notes. Complex and layered. Nice acidity. Medium tannins still present. Cherries on the palate too. Nice finish. Great food wine. Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Though generally only medium-bodied, the wines possess rose and anise scented aromatics and deep flavors of cherry, orange peel and subtle green herb tones.

1989 Burmester Port, 1989

Colheita Port
In Burmester gift tube.

*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***

We are delighted to offer a UK exclusive on Burmester Colheita Ports.

Reviews:
"The 1989 Colheita Tawny Port was bottled in 2015 with 103.6 grams per liter of residual sugar. Fresh and balanced, with a feeling of liveliness, this is more about restraint and elegance than mid-palate weight, but it shows fine concentration of flavor on the finish and delivers more than adequate mid-palate concentration as well. It also has more power than anticipated on first taste. Tightening fast as it warms, its fresh feel if laced with just a touch of Whiskey that provides the perfect counterweight to the tension on the finish and fine flavors.

1989 Cabernet Sauvignon

Sale

Quinta do Poço do Lobo
Special Offer | was £49 | Now £25

The 1989 Poco de Lobo Cabernet Sauvignon is a super cool old-school Cab. With a deep garnet colour, the wine shows impressive nose of cassis, licorice and sous bois, with dry herbs such as oregano and thyme and expressive varietal tertiary characteristics of leather, cigar box, dried mushrooms and forest floor. On the palate it is savory and full bodied with a beautiful balance between its fresh acidity and tertiary aromatics. This is still very fresh and mouth-watering on the palate with a medium plus finish.

Chateau Lynch-Bages, 1989

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe

Scoring and incredible 95 Parker points - this wine is one of the stars of the 1989 vintage.

Reviews: "Consistently backward and dense, with enormous potential, this admirable wine will not be ready for prime time drinking for another 5-7 years. The color is not quite as opaque as the 1990's, but reveals more purple and no lightening at the edge. Hugely concentrated flavors have just begun to offer up a nose of cedar and creme de cassis. Powerful and muscular, with high tannin and superb concentration, this is Lynch Bages at its biggest and most beastly. However, everything is in balance for a stunning evolution.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1989

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 95 Points Wine Journal ***

Reviews"The Mouton ’89 is a lovely Pauillac that has reached its plateau of maturity. It has an engaging cedar-scented bouquet touches of cigar box, mint and a touch of Italian cooked meats. Very well defined, very “old school”. The palate is medium-bodied and very harmonious with grainy tannins. It continues the aromatic theme of cedar and tobacco, relatively foursquare compared to Pichon-Baron of Lynch Bages, with a slightly leafy finish that demonstrates great persistency. It is very “classic” in style, restrained, elegant and bearing similarities to Lafite.

Chateau Pavie, 1989

St Emilion, Premier Grand Cru Classe

"The 1989 displays a deep ruby/garnet color with no signs of amber at the edge. It offers up an exotic, spicy, fruitcake, earthy, chocolatey nose with sweet woodsy aromas in the background. Long and youthful, with noticeably hard tannin, this medium-bodied, concentrated 1989 appears to be a slowly evolving wine. With another 2-3 years of bottle age, it may merit an outstanding score. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2016." Parker, WIne Advocate 1997

Inferno, 1989

Fratelli Bettini
Special Offer | Was £69 | Now £30

Inferno is one of five viticultural sub-zones specifically identified as producing Valtellina wines of particularly high quality: the other four are Grumello, Sassella, Maroggia and Valgella. Inferno means 'hell' in Italian, and refers to the slopes between Sondrio town and the village of Tresivio. Although DOC laws do not explain the origins of this name, it has been suggested that in summer the slopes here get noticeably hotter than the rest of the valley. Just across Sondrio to the west is Sassella, the finest of the Valtellina sub-zones.

Kopke Port, 1989

Vintage Port

A very rare bottle of Kopke VP. This is one of those noses where you can keep going back and finding things you think it smells like. I really like that. A bit punchy initially with it's alcohol, the finish is where this wine really shines. Starts off as fresh popcorn, turning hazelnuts and honey, then granola and brown sugar..... off into a 40-second long finish with various evolution in which I am sure different people would find different things. Truly delicious. This wine is very, very good. I love it when a wine forces you to think about it, and this does just that. Captivating, complex, intense and delicious.
