Sale

Quinta Cachao Vintage Port
Special Offer Was £99 | Now £79

Exclusive to VWP, The 1989 Quinta do Cachao from the very good 1989 vintage has an outstanding provenance. VWP have taken these bottles directly from Messias' cellars in Oporto where they have been stored since original bottling.

This is the 1989 Vintage Port from Caves Messias, owners of the Quinta do Cachao vineyard located in a prime position in the heart of the Douro valley. Decanted for 4 hours to allow the port to come into balance, it has a deep mahogany core with a lighter edge. The port is beautifully matured with lovely developed complex aromas of wild fruits, chocolate, dried fruits and nuts.

Warre's Vintage Port, 1989

Quinta Da Cavadinha Vintage Port

Brick-red core, broad amber rim; fine, perfumed, nicely evolved floral, esteva (gum cistus) aromas, open but possibly with a bit more to give; soft, sweet, and fully mature, with beautifully balanced cherry fruit. For me, the best of the '79.

Baron de Sigognac, 1988

Armagnac (Comes in Original Sigognac Wooden Box as illustrated)

The company behind this Armagnac owns one of the most important stocks of old vintages in the whole region. They are growers as well as distillers and specialise in sourcing and ageing old casks of Armagnac.

The Armagnac is made from a blend of Baco and Ugni Blanc, the predominant grapes used in the production of Armagnac. The alcohol content then reduces naturally to about 40% after about forty years. Presented in a perfectly simple wooden box.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1988

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

1988 produced richly coloured Cabernet and Merlot wines, that are tannic and powerfully structured. A great vintage, gorgeously seductive and remains the most complex wine of this Century, the quintessence of Lafite-Rothschild.

This deeply colored wine exhibits the telltale Lafite bouquet of cedar, subtle herbs, dried pit fruits, minerals, and cassis. Extremely concentrated, with brillantly focused flavors and huge tannins, this backward yet impressively endowed Lsfite Rothschild may well turn out to be the wine of the vintage. Anticipated maturity:2000-2035
Score: 94 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate (95),

Reviews.
"Slight aging on rim. A rich nose of minerals and blackcurrant. Medium-bodied with classic Mouton style. This has more fleshy fruit than other Firsts: quite rounded blackberry and tar. Very Cabernet dominated with a little more expression that Lafite 1988. A classic claret in every sense." Neil Martin

Chianti, 1988

New

Baccio - Vino Sorelli

Chianti, situated in Tuscany in central Italy, is home to probably the best-known and most iconic of all Italian wines.
The area’s most highly regarded wines come from the Chianti Classico zone which is the heartland of the Chianti wine region – its traditional and longest-established vinicultural area. This fame is due not just to the high quality of the wines, but also to the classico zone's iconic Tuscan landscape and wine making traditions. This Chianti is characterised by its red and black cherry character, intermingled with notes of wild herbs, mint and spice, supported by a racy acidity and mellow tannins.

Tignanello, 1988

Antinori's Tignanello, one of the first proprietary red Tuscan table wines, is gorgeous in 1988. Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1987

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe (Level in neck )

** 88-90 Points - WIne Journal **

Reviews:
" Light brick core. Tawny rim. Delicate leaf/minty nose. Quite earthy and mature on palate. Well-balanced, better than Lafite. Moderate concentration but quite austere and classic. Drink soon. Tasted amongst in a collectors gnome garden in Switzerland at 10am! Tasted again at the SuperBOWL and making perfect sense with a leg of lamb. A slightly diffuse, tobacco scented nose followed by a palate of moderate concentration with cedar and tobacco. Quite a soft texture but with vibrant acidity. A gentleman’s claret."
