This from Margaux from the 1983 wine vintage is brick red fading to transparency at the edges; good legs. Closed nose and flavor upon serving, but with an evident structure. After 30-45 minutes in the glass, it began to open up and continued to do so over the next two hours. Dark cherry flavors; some detected oak. After 3 hours, it had maintained its structure and flavors, while never strong, and become more pronounced. Excellent wine for its age and pedigree.

The great vintages or millésimés of Janneau are the expression of a single year, most commonly of a single cask. Produced exclusively with the single distillation process, they are the quintessence of this precious distillate aged over the years. Each vintage expresses its unique character. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a sharp contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree.
