2000 Wine and Port Vintage
Vintage Port: The 2000 Vintage was the first to be declared in the 21st century and will be remembered for the immense concentration of its wines and for the small quantities produced. The wines show tremendous promise, with intense berry fruit aromas and full-bodied structure. They should remain at their peak between now and 2040 at the very least, if kept well.
Italian: 2000 was one of the finest post-war vintages for Piedmont wines. The wines are still tannic and youthful, and will last for many years to come.
Bordeaux: The fabled millennium vintage produced wines that are of true greatness and longevity. They are characterised as being powerful and concentrated, with high tannins. The quality is due to ideal weather from the end of September; this allowed the grapes to develop thick skins from lack of moisture. For the first time in many years there was little rain in the harvest season allowing the skins to thicken further. This served to further concentrate the wines. These have evolved slowly and will continue to do so for decades to come, making them an excellent idea for a 19 year old wine gift for a birthday or anniversary whether to drink now or keep for future drinking.

Chateau Duhart Milon Rothschild, 2000

An outstanding Duhart, certainly one of the best produced at this estate since the 1996, 1986, and 1982, this blend of 80.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 19.5% Merlot reveals a deep ruby/purple color as well as notes of lead pencil intermixed with wet stones, black currants, and a certain leafiness. Chateau Langoa Barton, 2000
St-Julien 3rd Growth Classification
*** 91 Points - Robert Parker ***
*** 94 Points - Neil Martin ***
Reviews "Showing far more impressively from bottle than it ever did from cask, this wine has turned out to be an outstanding Langoa Barton. It reveals a deep, saturated purple color and an expansive, sweet nose of earthy black currants, plum, and melted licorice. Structured, dense, chewy, with full body, good acidity, and plenty of tannin, this is undeniably a wine for patient connoisseurs, or as the French say, a vin de garde. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2035." Robert Parker Wine Advocate 2003.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2000
Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe
97 Points (Parker)
"The 2000 Mouton Rothschild is at its best with about 24-48 hours of decanting. A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% Merlot, the wine offers a saturated ruby/purple color in addition to reticent but promising aromas of toast, coffee, licorice, creme de cassis, and roasted nuts. Dense, chewy, and backward, with tremendous purity and density in addition to obvious toasty oak, it is full-bodied, powerful, tannic, and backward. Twenty-four to 48 hours of aeration only hints at its ultimate potential. This blockbuster will be exceptionally long-lived. It is not as expressive as the other first-growth Medocs, but give it time. …

Chateau Rouget, 2000
Wine Spectator: 92 Points
Very grapey, with violet, lilac and other flowers on the nose. This is full-bodied, with big, velvety tannins and a superripe, raisiny aftertaste. A full-throttle red from a chateau people forget about. Score range: 89-91
Wine Advocate: 90 Points
The finest Rouget since the mid-sixties (i.e., 1964), this dense plum/ruby-colored 2000 offers aromas and flavors of licorice, balsam wood, plums, black cherry liqueur, and raspberries presented in a full-bodied, plump, chewy format. The flamboyant aromatics are followed by an equally impressive, lush attack, but serious tannin appears in the finish of this meaty, full-bodied Pomerol. …
