Fonseca Port, 1992
Vintage Port
Fonseca, 1992 Vintage Port
The 1992 vintage followed the celebrated declaration of 1991 and produced a number of impressive wines from leading houses. In the Douro Valley, favourable conditions through the growing season allowed the grapes to reach excellent ripeness. While the year did not see a universal declaration, Fonseca recognised the quality of the harvest and produced a Vintage Port that reflects the house’s renowned richness and aromatic intensity.
Fonseca 1992 Vintage Port is typically opulent and expressive. The bouquet opens with layers of ripe blackberry, cassis and plum, complemented by notes of dark chocolate, spice and a touch of floral violet — a hallmark of Fonseca’s style. …

Porta dos Cavaleiros, 1992
Porta dos Cavaleiros, Dao
Caves S. Joao, established in 1920, became a dominant force in Portuguese wine making in the early 20th century with their houses Porta dos Cavaleiros in Dao and Frei Joao in Bairrada. Given the shifting trends in consumer preferences, Bairrada and Dao fell to obscurity in the 1990s when critical influence drove the demand for bigger, extracted, warmer climate wines. As in all things, however, what comes around goes around! Sure enough, 20 years later savvy consumers and food-conscious sommeliers are looking for finesse and freshness and heading back to Bairrada and Dao. Wines that when young had a vegetal character, …

Vintage Port
Quinta do Vesuvio, 1992
Vintage Port
The 1992 vintage in the Douro followed the acclaimed 1991 declaration, and while not universally declared, several leading houses produced impressive Vintage Ports of depth and character. Quinta do Vesuvio — one of the Douro’s most historic and visually striking estates — crafted a wine that reflects the power and individuality for which the quinta is renowned.
Located in the remote Douro Superior, Vesuvio is celebrated for its steep terraced vineyards and traditionally lagares-fermented Ports. By the early 1990s, under the stewardship of the Symington family, the estate was firmly established as a producer of intensely structured, age-worthy Vintage Ports. …

Taylor Fladgate, 1992
Vintage Port
100 Points - Robert Parker
*** 100 Points - Robert Parker ***
***19/20 Jancis Robinson***
"Taylor's 1992 Vintage Port is unquestionably the greatest young port I have ever tasted. It represents the essence of what vintage port can achieve. The color is an opaque black/purple, and the nose offers up fabulously intense aromas of minerals, cassis, blackberries, licorice, and spices, as well as extraordinary purity and penetration. Yet this is still an unformed and infantile wine. If Chateau Latour made a late-harvest Cabernet Sauvignon, I suspect it might smell like this. In the mouth, the wine is out of this world, displaying layer upon layer of concentrated black fruits backed by well-integrated tannin and structure. …

Delaforce Port, 1991
Quinta da Corte Vintage Port
1991 Delaforce Quinta da Corte Vintage Port
The 1991 vintage produced a number of attractive and well-structured Ports, and this Quinta da Corte bottling from Delaforce offers a fine example of single-quinta character from the Douro. Now with over three decades of bottle age, it is entering a lovely stage of maturity while retaining freshness and structure.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby-garnet in colour with slight bricking at the rim, the nose opens with aromas of ripe blackberries, damson plum and dark cherry, layered with notes of violets, cedarwood and gentle spice. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied, with supple tannins that have softened over time. …

Graham's, 1991
Vintage Port
Graham’s, 1991 Vintage Port
The 1991 vintage in the Douro followed a challenging 1990 season but ultimately produced a number of excellent Vintage Ports, particularly from producers with the best vineyard holdings. A warm, dry summer allowed the grapes to ripen fully, while cooler conditions during harvest helped retain freshness and balance. The resulting wines show impressive structure combined with attractive fruit purity.
Graham’s 1991 Vintage Port reflects the house style beautifully — rich, powerful and generous. Now reaching a lovely stage of maturity, it offers a complex bouquet of dried blackberry, plum compote and fig, layered with notes of cocoa, cedarwood and spice developed through bottle ageing. …

Quinta do Noval Nacional, 1991
Vintage Port
Rich ruby color that is nearly opaque. It presents notes of strawberry, molasses and others mentioned root beer which I did not really get, but thought was worth noting. This Nacional displays excellent concentration and structure, with medium to full-bodied juice. It possesses young blackberry fruit with a unique balsamic component, and shows its fine balance and some powerful tannins that will allow this wine to age for a few decades. A fine Nacional but not a classic, from an unheralded vintage that has a very youthful essence and lingering finish. 93 pts. (HOLD) Roy Hersh
