Nino Negri

Inferno is one of five viticultural sub-zones specifically identified as producing Valtellina wines of particularly high quality: the other four are Grumello, Sassella, Maroggia and Valgella. Inferno means 'hell' in Italian, and refers to the slopes between Sondrio town and the village of Tresivio. Although DOC laws do not explain the origins of this name, it has been suggested that in summer the slopes here get noticeably hotter than the rest of the valley. Just across Sondrio to the west is Sassella, the finest of the Valtellina sub-zones.

The 1994 Offley Vintage Port has a beautiful light brick color. The nose is warm, intense and pervasive, with a lot of roasted almonds, black cherry and dark chocolate. There is quite a bit of alcohol upfront, reminding of an Amaretto. Full bodied with a smooth and creamy texture and the same layers of flavors on the palate. The chocolate lingers for minutes.

In the nose a lot of alcohol. It has a powerful nose but it’s not very complex. Liquorice, dark fruit, dark chocolate. There is also an amaretto cookie element coming through which is quite nice.
Taste: A creamy velvet texture. At the start a lot of freshness which is followed up very quickly with a lot of alcohol that attacks the palate. Dried fruit, some liquorice, and a really nice acidity.

Giorgio Zaglia

Refosco is a very old Italian family of dark-skinned grape varieties native to the northern Italian and neighbouring areas of Friuli, Gavi, Trentino,Istria, and Karst Plateau.It is considered autochthonous in these regions. The wines this grape yields can be quite powerful and tannic, with a deep violet color and a slight bitterness. On the palate, there are strong currant, wild berry and plum flavors. This is the most representative and prestigious wine of the entire Valtellina region. It can be produced in all valleys (from Ardenno to Tirano), but only in hilly, well exposed vineyards having with loose soil and gravel. This wine is obtained from hand-made selection of the best bunches of Nebbiolo-Chiavennasca grapes, which are dried on wooden racks in a well ventilated and dry room, a "Fruttaio", for at least 110 days until late January. During this winter time the climate of the Valtellina region does all the work, drying the grapes. Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac

The 1993 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.
