Maury, 2008

Vin Doux Naturel, Domaine Fontanel

The 2008 Maury is a unique dessert wines coming from the Languedoc region. Maury can be keep for years, much like a port wine. the 1974 has notes of nuts, figs, raisins, sweet prune jam, blue mold and oxidation. Some liquorice and pine nuts. Very sweet, but with a slightly unpolished woody touch. Warm alcohol and very long. Great stuff and worked wonders with Camembert topped with fruit and nuts.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2005

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

WA - Beautiful, elegant red, blue and black fruits (89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot) as well as some graphite and spice notes jump from the glass of the 2005 Lafite Rothschild. Medium-bodied, with superb purity and texture, this is not a blockbuster by any means, but a meticulously made, lovely-textured Pauillac. Long and pure, this wine should drink well for 25-30 years. There is no danger in pulling the cork on it today. Robert Parker eRobertParker.com 19 Jun 2015

WS - Delivers blackberry, dried porcini, tobacco and licorice aromas. Full-bodied, with layers of velvety tannins and loads of dark chocolate, cigar box, currant, berry and mineral.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2004

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

An excellent 2004 vintage bordeaux wine. Only 39% of production was used for the Grand Vin and with a whopping 90.5% Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend (the balance being 9% Merlot and 0.5% Petit Verdot) the 2004 Lafite needed little introduction. This wine has one of the most exciting noses - intense, spicy, pure cassis and a generous helping of creamy vanilla. The palate is just as exciting, exhibiting terrific concentration and a hint of warm new oak which leads to an intense, linear core of lively blackcurrants and layers of intriguing minerality. The Cabernet was very evident on the finish with the variety's characteristically firm tannins taking over at the end, making this one for the long term.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2004

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

A 2004 vintage bordeaux wine. Prince Charles agreed that the label for Mouton Rothschild 2004 could be illustrated with one of his watercolours, inspired by a French landscape, in celebration of the 1904 Entente Cordiale. He has added in his own handwriting also to the label.

Reviews:
*** 94 Points - In Asia ***
"Deep garnet-black. There’s a wonderful purity of fruit on the nose with aromas of warm blackcurrant, dark cherries, dark chocolate, anise, cinnamon and a waft of cedar. The palate is relatively rich with a medium to full body and a good amount of ripe, mouth-filling fruit. Medium+ level of velvety tannins and medium+ acidity provide nice balance.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2002

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

A vintage 2002 Bordeaux Wine from Château Mouton Rothschild.

*** 93 Points Robert Parker ***

"Dense purple to the rim, this wine exhibits the classic cassis aroma that is so characteristic of Mouton. Medium to full-bodied, tannic, powerful, and cut somewhat from the 1988 mold, this is a backward, chewy, well-endowed Mouton-Rothschild that will require considerable patience from those who purchase it. A blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Franc, and 1% Petit Verdot, the wine needs a good decade of cellaring. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2030+." Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 2005.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac, 1st Growth Classification

*** 94 Points - Robert parker ***
*** 96 Points - Neil Martin ***

Reviews:
The 2001 Lafite Rothschild’s deep, saturated plum/purple color is accompanied by lead pencil liqueur-like notes intermixed with sweet red and black currants, plums, and cedar. This blend of 86.5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 13.5% Merlot is a classic example of Lafite. Extremely elegant, medium-bodied, with intense concentration, richness, and sweet tannin, it appears to be on a rapid evolutionary track, at least in comparison to recent Lafite vintages that have been far more backward and powerful. The classy 2001 should be at its finest between 2007-2020.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 2001

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

"Lifted blackberry, autumn leaf, cedar and a touch of fresh tobacco, the mintiness enhanced by continued aeration. The palate is very tight and slightly pinched at the moment, the tannins a little harder and less fine than Lafite, the finish slightly chalky and foursquare in texture. Personally, I prefer the 2002 to the previous year, but it is still a decent, mid-weight Pauillac that would show better with cuisine. Drink 2013-2025. Tasted November 2010." Dow's Port

Dow's 20 Year Old Tawny Port in (Own box as seen in image)

Dow's 20 Year Old Tawny Port was relaunched in 2019, after an absence from the market for a number of years. For many the perfect age for a great Tawny Port. The vibrant purple colour of a great young Port has softened to a delicate green-gold after 20 long years in seasoned oak casks under the watchful eye of the master blender and the Dow’s head lodge man. On the palate, Dow’s Twenty Years Old Tawny is perfectly balanced, with notes of dried nuts and spice. One of the greatest wines a Port blender can make.

Anima Negra, 1999

Son Vi Negre de la Terra de Mallorca

A rare and outstanding 1999 vintage Spanish Wine from Anima Negra. Son Negre is only launched into the market in exceptional vintages. This Crianza wine comes as a result of a collaboration with the artist and close friend Miquel Barceló, who designs an exclusive label for each of the Son Negre’s vintages, similar to Mouton Rothschild. The wine has cult status in Spain, with only very few bottles produced.

The 1999 Son Negre shows a very expressive aroma of toasted bread, violets, tobacco, black cherries and black raspberries on the nose.Very rich in the mouth, with layers of fruit and spices and a very long finish.

Chateau Haut Brion, 1999

Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe

Château Haut-Brion's 1999 comes from a very good Bordeaux vintage for those producers who picked their crop selectively.

The 1999 Haut Brion is intensely aromatic, rich and concentrated. Their wines are consistently viewed as some of the very best in the entire Bordeaux region, including its fellow first growths of the Médoc.

Reviews..

"The Haut-Brion is certainly more expressive on the nose than their neighbours over the road, very good lift with blackberry, cedar, iodine, macerated black cherries, a touch of dried herbs. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced, very elegant with svelte, fine tannins.

Chateau Lafite Rothschild, 1999

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe,

This first growth reveals a remarkably complex nose with subtle new oak. The palate starts supple but finishes with great intensity. Although delicious now, this top rated wine has the structure to last.

Critical Acclaim
RP95
The Wine Advocate - "The 1999 Lafite Rothschild sports an engraved "1999" on the bottle along with an eclipse to mark that significant historical event of August, 1999. It is a quintessential offering from Lafite Rothschild. This prodigious wine is both elegant and intensely flavored, and almost diaphanous in its layers that unfold with no heaviness. An opaque ruby/purple color is accompanied by a complex bouquet of lead pencil, graphite, cedar, creme de cassis, toast, and vanilla.

Chateau Latour, 1999

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

Many regard Latour as the greatest of Bordeaux's Premier Crus. Their 1999 as been desribed as 'sensational', 'luscious' and 'exciting'. It's beautifully concentrated and impeccably balanced, with just the right amount of chewy tannin and fruit extraction, but with a slightly gentle level of acidity. Gobs of cassis and blackberry compote sit with smoky oak, mineral notes and a whiff of leather. Some regard it as the wine of the vintage, Parker awarded it 93-95 points and Jancis Robinson gave it a very hefty 18/20. Drinking now, until beyond 2030.

Chateau Mouton Rothschild, 1999

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe

*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews:
"The beautiful 1999 Mouton Rothschild may be a modern day clone of their 1962 or 1985. Its saturated ruby/purple color is followed by sumptuous aromas of cedar wood, creme de cassis, wood smoke, coffee, and dried herbs. The wine is forward, lush, and full-bodied. It is already complex as well as succulent, fleshy, and long. Tannin in the finish suggests more nuances will emerge in 4-5 years. It is a complex, classic Mouton. Pinonero - Podere Rocche dei Manzoni

Chateau Margaux, 1997

Margaux 1er Grand Cru Classe

Reviews:
The best of the First Growth ‘97s... garnet/ruby core with ruby rim. The nose is exquisite with great delineation and purity with much more vigour that the other Firsts. Mint, blackberries, violets and blueberries all leap from the glass, oblivious to the fact that they stem from a poor vintage. The palate has a slightly voluptuous feel to it, rounded black fruits, raspberry, cassis, tobacco, graphite and a touch of Asian spice towads the finish. Sheer class. A superb success for Paul Pontallier in a difficult vintage. Drink now-2025. Tasted September 2006." Neil Martin, Wine Journal.

Dom Perignon, 1996

Champagne

** Robert Parker 98 Points **

"The brilliant 1996 Dom Perignon, which has largely disappeared from the marketplace, may be the finest young example of DP I have ever tasted. Notes of crushed rocks, honeysuckle, lemon oil, orange marmalade, and white pear provide a stunning aromatic display as well as palate impression. Great acidity and huge flavor intensity backed up by vibrant acidity make this an exquisite Champagne. It should drink well for 20-25 years, possibly longer." Parker, Wine Advocate 2005
