Actor Eddie Redmayne was born in this year. His portrayal of Stephen Hawking in the 2014 film The Theory of Everything earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Top Grossing Movie: E.T The Extra Terrestrial.

Bordeaux: The 1982 was an outstanding wine vintage that produced some of the most complex profound Bordeaux wines since 1961. Great weather made this vintage a success - harvests were boosted by a September heat-wave, the result of which was super-ripe grapes, both in respect of sugar content and physiology. The lesser wines from the St Emilion, Graves, Pomerol and Margaux regions are now fully mature. The heavyweight wines from these regions and St Julien, Pauillac are evolving slowly and will continue to do so for years to come.

Champagne: 1982 is an exceptionally fine, rich vintage for Champagne. Ideal weather conditions led to a good vintage, a relief after a disappointing run. A cold and frosty winter gave way to a coolish spring, but temperatures picked up later in the season. The flowering conditions in June were ideal, and summer was sunny and dry. The grapes were ripe by relatively early on in September, and showers mid-month helped them achieve near-perfection. The crop was one of the largest on record.

Italian: 1982 was a tremendous vintage for big, rich and fruity Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The grapes were in superb condition for an early harvest and, thanks to the wonderful summer, the crop was large as well as very healthy. Wines from Tuscany such as Chianti or Brunello were also in fine form producing ripe, flavoursome, well-balanced wines.

Portugal: 1982 was a good Port Vintage, with elegant and aromatic wines. Although a few Houses declared the Vintage, most made Quinta wines.

    Palmer Port, 1982

    Colheita Port
Exclusive to Vintage Wine and Port

1982 Palmer Colheita Port (Douro, Portugal)

A beautifully mellow single-harvest Tawny drawn from the 1982 vintage and matured for decades in old casks. In the glass it shows deep amber-tawny with a burnished rim; the nose is lifted and complex—dried fig and date, orange peel, walnut and almond brittle, toffee and crème brûlée, with a subtle varnished-oak/rancio note.

Silky and beautifully balanced on the palate: candied citrus and apricot layered with caramel, hazelnut and nougat; sweetness is refined rather than heavy, kept taut by lively acidity. The finish is long and elegant with salted caramel, pecan and orange-zest echoes.

    Barolo, 1982

    Fontanafredda

Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.

    Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 1982

    St Estephe, 2nd Growth Classification

Review by Robert Parker... "A spectacular performance for this wine, Cos d'Estournel's 1982 exhibits a dark ruby/purple color with light pink at the rim. Sweet aromas of jammy black fruits intermixed with roasted espresso and vanillin jump from the glass of this young, concentrated, full-bodied, succulent effort. An opulent texture, low acidity, and splendidly pure, concentrated, blackberry and cassis fruit suggest this 1982 can be drunk now, or cellared for another 15-20 years. An awesome wine!" Chateau d'Yquem, 1982

    Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classe
    Sweet White Wine

Yquem is indisputedly the best wine in Sauternes and may well be the finest sweet wine in the world.

92 Points, Neal Martin, The Wine Advocate, 26th Jun 2014

Served from an ex-chateau bottle. Sauternes only produced two exceptional wines in 1982: Suduiraut and Yquem. Although I have encountered the 1982 Chateau d’Yquem on three occasions, this is the finest bottle. It was an early vintage, physiological ripeness reached on September 16. Rainfall interrupted the harvest that really could not start in earnest until November 2, for just four days. It has a lucid amber color, and a fully mature bouquet with mandarin and marmalade aromas that are pure and well-delineated.

A tasting note from 2013 for the 1982 Château Fourcas Hosten indicates that the wine had "held up very well," with "lots of fruit on the palate even after 31 years in a cellar." This suggests that, at that time, the wine maintained its fruit character and structure.

Cherries on the palate too. Nice finish. Great food wine. Nebbiolo is a fickle grape famed as much for its pale appearance as for its tannic character and produces some of the most perfumed and richly flavored wines. Then there is a DOC Valtellina Rosso (also called Rosso di Valtellina DOC) which requires at least 80% of the blend be Chiavennasca and does not have minimum ageing requirements.

    Quinta do Noval Nacional, 1982

    Quinta do Noval Nacional

    86/100 Wine Spectator
    90/100 Wine Doctor

Noval is particularly famous for its Nacional, a Port produced in some years only from a 2 hectare parcel at the heart of the Noval vineyard where ungrafted vines survive. This is remarkable, because phylloxera, the root munching aphid that necessitates grafting vines onto resistant American rootstock, is endemic in the Douro

"This a gloriously wild, rich, sensual port with a rich spicy nose and flavour and a sweet, full glorious length and aftertaste" Drink now - 2033. M Broadbent *****

"Pale cherry colour. Evolved spicy, earthy nose with dusty, herby notes.

    ChatGPT said:

1982 Ramos Pinto – Vintage Port (Douro, Portugal)

A beautifully mellow, fully mature Vintage Port from one of the Douro’s classic houses. In the glass it shows deep garnet fading to tawny at the rim. The nose is complex and inviting: dried fig and date, black cherry liqueur and plum compote, orange peel, cocoa, coffee bean and warm spice, with a subtle eucalyptus/menthol lift and polished old-oak tones.

Silky and harmonious on the palate. Sweet blackberry and kirsch fold into caramelised nut, dark chocolate and baking spice; the spirit is well knit, acidity fresh, and the tannins now velvety and resolved.

Clearance Offer – Last Bottle Was £79 Now £45

1982 Vino da Tavola – Capanelle / Raffaella Rossetti (Tuscany, Italy)

A fully mature, old-school Tuscan red that favours perfume and savoury finesse over power. Brick-garnet with a broad tawny rim, it opens on dried cherry and amarena, rose petal, cedar and sweet tobacco, with hints of orange peel, tea leaf and a gentle balsamic/underbrush note. Mid-weight and silken on the palate: lively, old-world acidity carries savoury red-cherry fruit, dried herbs and subtle leather; tannins are fine and resolved. The finish is long and tapering with cherry skin, cedar spice and dried flowers.

Producer note: Capanelle/Capannelle’s early Vino da Tavola bottlings from the 1980s sit in the “pre-IGT” super-Tuscan tradition—Sangiovese-led,
