Taylor's Port, 1970
Vintage Port
Shipped by Whitwhams wines Ltd
Damaged Labels
Taylor's 1970 Vintage Port reviews.
99 points Wine Enthusiast
This wine's dark garnet color with minimal bricking suggests a relatively youthful wine and this certainly could age longer, although it's also delicious now. Wonderfully complex floral and herbal scents easily move into deep, rich flavors of chocolate and cherries, sprinkled with a healthy dose of Douro minerality and spice. Drink or hold. (JC) (2/2007)
98 points Vinous
The 1970 Taylor's Vintage Port has a tight nose, youthful with notes of liquorice, raisin, boot-polish and lemongrass. It is well defined and displays a little more intensity than the 1963. …

Vecchio Maniero, 1970
Marchesi di Barolo, Barolo, Piedmont *** BIG GALLON BOTTLE OF 3,78 LITERS ***
This wine from the good 1970 vintage is made with the long lived Nebbiolo grape. this is a black-skinned red wine grape variety most famous for creating the 'tar and roses' scent of Barolo wines from Piedmont, north-western Italy. The grape's very name is evocative of its home among the misty foothills of the western Alps; the nebbia (Italian for 'fog') after which it is named frequently arrives on early October mornings, when the Nebbiolo harvest is in full swing.

Vernaccia di Sardegna, 1970
Sella & Mosca
This is a sherry-like wine made in Sardegna Vernaccia, like Muscat, Malvasia and Clairette, is a name applied to several distinct grape varieties, rather than identifying a single one definitively. The reason for this is simply that the name derives from the Latin word for 'domestic' or 'native' – in fact it is directly related to the word 'vernacular', meaning the language of a particular place or people. Vernaccia di Oristano is distinguished from other Vernaccias only by the fact that it grows around Oristano, in the west of Sardinia. It is thought to be grown nowhere else in the world. Like their Cannonau (Grenache) counterparts in Sardinia, …

Palmer Port, 1969
Colheita Port, Douro
*** 50cl Bottle ***
The 1969 Palmer Colheita Port has been a phenomenal bestseller for VWP. We have persuaded Palmer to make one final small batch. This will be the last batch ever made as stocks will then be exhausted.
Tasting Notes: The 1969 Palmer has a deep mahogany colour with olive highlights on the rim highlighting that this is a wine of great age. On the nose it has a very fine, elegant aroma of honey, caramel and butterscotch infused with a spicy redolence of black pepper and cinnamon. There are layers of complexity here with wild herbs and mint. The palate is perfectly balanced with a fresh acidity and sweetness. …

Cantine Prandi, 1969
Cantine Prandi, Barolo, Piedmont - LAST LIBRARY STOCK
The 1969 Barolo Cantine Prandi have come from the producer's cellars where they have laid undisturbed since bottling.

In the 1960's his nephew Giovanni came to lend a hand and was instrumental in shaping the winery and its future development. Up to 2009, Giovanni's son Alessandro looked after the beautiful vineyards situated in the long hills surrounding Piemonte. In recent years, due to Alessandro's passing, the winery ceased production. …

Barolo, 1969
Pasquale Veglio - Cascina Bruni, Barolo, Piedmont
Barolo is known as the 'king of wines' and is made from the Nebbiolo grape. Heady aromas of rose, leather, vanilla, cherry, pepper, cranberry, strawberry. Fruits are perfectly knitted with the tannins and acidity. It's a powerful wine but remarkably subtle. Don't underestimate it and certainly serve it with food to show at it's best. Nebbiolo has naturally high tannins and acidity, so it will take on full-flavoured, rich foods no problem at all.
