Chateau Haut-Bages Liberal, 2005

Pauillac 5th Growth Classification, Bordeaux
***90 Points - Robert Parker***

Haut-Bages Libéral's undeniably fine terroir (next to First Growth Ch. Latour, no less) has been harnessed superbly in 2005. Claire Villars delivers what most Claret lovers really want - namely, wines of character that reflect their terroir, offered at sensible prices. Made from 25% Merlot and 75% Cabernet, this has a lovely fresh, elegant nose; the palate is feminine in style with a lovely creamy finesse but also has rich, spicy damson and blackberry fruit and very good grip. The finish is very pure with an attractive marzipan edge providing an extra layer of complexity.

Chateau Rieussec, 2005

Sauternes, 1er Grand Cru classe
***97 Points -The Wine Advocate***

The 2005 Chateau Rieussec is a monumental wine with outstanding balance and aging potential. A complex honeyed, spicy fruit cake and floral nose and a viscous, juicy palate with extraordinary acidity. A touch of creme brulee and apricots on the mid-palate and a formidable, long spicy - yet beautifully zingy finish. Drink now to 2035+.

For several generations, Chateau Rieussec has been a leading name in Sauternes wines. As early as 1868, Charles Cocks remarked that "Beyond any of the others, Rieussec produces wines that are very similar to Yquem wines".

Owned by the Barons de Rothschild of Chateau Lafite the chateau is next door to the hallowed ground of Yquem.

Pauillac 1er Grand Cru Classe, Bordeaux
Small scuff on front label

A 2004 vintage bordeaux wine. Prince Charles agreed that the label for Mouton Rothschild 2004 could be illustrated with one of his watercolours, inspired by a French landscape, in celebration of the 1904 Entente Cordiale. He has added in his own handwriting also to the label.

Reviews:
*** 94 Points - In Asia ***
"Deep garnet-black. There’s a wonderful purity of fruit on the nose with aromas of warm blackcurrant, dark cherries, dark chocolate, anise, cinnamon and a waft of cedar. The palate is relatively rich with a medium to full body and a good amount of ripe, mouth-filling fruit. Medium+ level of velvety tannins and medium+ acidity provide nice balance.

Chateau Pavie Macquin, 2004

St. Emilion Grand Cru, Bordeaux
** 93 Points - Robert Parker **

The 2004 Pavie Macquin has a good intensity in the glass and equally deep, bold, soft-skinned, fully-ripe black cherry aromas on the nose. A very welcoming style with plush-textured, gently toasted black cherry and red fruit on the palate. The tannins are fairly soft at first then build in the mouth, while the colour belies a soft, careful extraction. A pure st-émilion with a good sense of luscious expressive fruit and a distinctive mineral quality.

Situated on clay and limestone soils above the better known Pavie-Decesse, this 37.5-acre vineyard is planted with 75% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc, and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Graham's Port

***92 Points critics' Score, Aggregated***

Graham's 20 Years Old represents superlative quality. Its principal attributes are great complexity and harmony.
With an amber, golden tawny colour, denoting considerable age, Graham's 20 Years Old has an excellent bouquet, with a characteristic 'nutty' character (almonds) and delicious mature fruit with hints of orange peel, exquisitely mellowed by careful ageing. Rich, sweet and smooth on the palate, it is perfectly balanced, with a long and lingering finish. This is an excellent alternative to Vintage Port at less formal occasions and will keep for some weeks after opening.

Very pale amber/tawny/orange colour. Fine and delicate aromas of hazelnuts and candied citrus. Quince marmalade character, delicate in style, with finesse and poise. Seemingly quite dry in style towards the finish (not as obviously rich as some here), and supremely refined.

Quevedo, 2002

Colheita Port, Douro
***90 Points (MS) - Wine Advocate***

2002 was a difficult year. Definitively the biggest challenge of the decade - even for Quevedo. Since no grapes were used to produced Vintage Port, their best selection was used to make this Colheita. With 20 years of ageing in their cellar, this is probably the most elegant and complex Colheita produced so far.

Winemakers Notes
COLOUR: Light brick

AROMA: Very complex and intense notes of spices, caramel, dried fruits.

PALATE: Powerful entry with a rich profusion of dried fruits, mid palate filled with candied fruits. Spices on the lingering finish put together this layered, complex and elegant Port.

Chateau Talbot, 2001

St Julien, 4me Cru Classe

** 90 Points Neil Martin **

Reviews
"This may be the largest vineyard in the Medoc, with nearly 300 acres under vine. There was a period in the nineties where Talbot seemed to be a bit off form, but quality over recent vintages has displayed considerable promise. This estate is capable of producing very special wines, as anyone who has tasted their 1986 or 1982 can easily attest. The 2001, which represents only 50% of the production, is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, and 5% Cabernet Franc. A dense saturated ruby/purple color is followed by notes of smoked herbs, licorice, cedar, incense, plums, and black currants.

Quinta do Noval Nacional, 2001

Vintage Port
Presented in Luxurious Quinta Do Noval gift Box
99 Points - Wine Spectator
98 Points - Wine Enthusiast
98/100 - Tom Cannavan

The 2001 Vintage Port Nacional is a late release, declared in 2003. Christian Seely, Owner of Quinta do Noval said that "The 2001 was extremely backward and quite closed up, dense and very tannic. Since we had just declared and released the 2000 Nacional, we decided to lay down the 250 cases of Nacional 2001. The late release has certainly tamed this. It still feels very firm and has a real backbone, but it is not overly drying and it is a lot more approachable than newly-released Nacionals can be.

Q. Do Noval Director Christian Seeley :
“Although we declared Quinta do Noval Nacional 2001 officially in 2003, we did not release the wine for sale at the time.

Chateau d'Issan, 2000

Cantenac Margaux 3rd Growth Classification, Bordeaux

An outstanding wine, scoring 93 pts, from a superb vintage. Robert Parker, renowned wine critic writes of this wine....."A suave, aristocratic, classic built on delicacy and finesse as opposed to power and blockbuster fruit, the 2000 requires introspection, but what one finds is extremely rewarding. This graceful, symmetrical, refined effort displays a dark ruby/purple colour in addition to a sweet perfume of white flowers intermixed with black currants, liquorice, and subtle new oak. Medium-bodied, with sweet but noticeable tannin, and a dense finish that builds gradually and persistently, it appears to be the finest d'Issan produced in over four decades.

Chateau d'Yquem, 2000

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe

Only 25,000 bottles of Yquem were made in this very tough Sauternes vintage. A truly valiant effort from this fine property.

"The millennial 2000 Chateau d’Yquem is a valiant effort in one of the most challenging Sauternes vintages in recent memory. The 2000 is quite deep in colour. The nose is crisp and well-defined but not the most complex, as you would expect from a truly challenging growing season in Sauternes. It is pleasant in its own way with delicate scents of tangerine, yellow flowers and Mirabelle. The palate is well-balanced with marmalade tinged opening. I like the acidity here, an Yquem with good race, although it does feel a little tapered toward the finish.

Chateau Grand Pontet, 2000

St Emilion, Bordeaux
** 92 Points - Robert Parker **

Tasting Note for the 2000 Chateau Grand Pontet: A blend of 75 Merlot, 15 Cabernet Franc, and 10 Cabernet Sauvignon produced from modest yields of 30 hectolitres per hectare, this opaque purple-coloured, fat, ripe, exotic, flamboyant effort (coffee, plums, vanilla, and sweet black cherries galore) is a St.-Emilion fruit-bomb made in a modern style. With loads of character, glycerin, fruit, and concentration, this full-bodied, "stacked and packed" wine will be adored by consumers! Robert Parker, Wine Advocate 146, April 2003.

Chateauneuf du Pape, 2000

Domaine Vieux Telegraphe, Rhone

The 2000 Vieux Telegraphe Rouge invariably has a beautiful colour, an earthy nose, but one of freshness, lively and promising. One finds freshness in the mouth, nervy and lightly mentholated. At the same time, it is suave and rich on the finish. The tannins are supple and ripe with no dryness. The end of the tasting is very clean and woody, rich with a light liquorice taste.

With its structure and complexity this red wine will go well with game, lamb or risotto with wild mushrooms cooked in a red wine sauce.

Dow's, 2000

Vintage Port, Douro

**94 Points** Robert Parker
"An opaque blue/purple colour (typical of this vintage's top offerings) is followed by a strikingly provocative aromatic display (flowers, licorice, blackberries, and cassis). This firmly-structured, classic, tightly-knit, restrained port exhibits brilliant purity as well as impressive intensity. While not the most dramatic or flamboyant, it is a beautiful, classically structured port that will age gracefully. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2050." Robert Parker

Colheita Port Storage and Serving Advice:
Colheita Port should be stored in a cool and dry place, sheltered from light and temperature fluctuations, and the bottle should remain in an upright position. If stored correctly, Colheita Ports will keep for decades in the bottle. Over time, it is natural that a little sediment will form at the bottom of a bottle of colheita Port wine.

Chateau d'Yquem, 1999

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe
Half Bottle (37.5cl)

Yquem is without doubt, one of the world's finest sweet wine producers, of whom Robert Parker comments: "There is no other wine in the world like it, and there is no other luxury wine that can possibly justify its price as much as Yquem. The remarkable amount of painstaking labor necessary to produce the nectar known as Yquem is almost impossible to comprehend."

Reviews: A golden, straw hue. The nose is predictable and linear compared to the other Yquem's that I have tasted. White flowers, acacia, rather like a sweet Auslese! The palate is lively, rich, moderate acidity.

Chateau Leoville Poyferre, 1999

St Julien 2me Cru Classe, Bordeaux
*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***

*** 93 Points - Robert Parker ***

Tasted at the 1999 horizontal at Bordeaux Index. One of my favourite ‘99s, this has a very lifted, well-defined nose that eschews the more opulent bouquet that Didier sometimes conjures. Blackberry, cedar, raspberry leaf, pencil shavings. The palate is medium-bodied, not quite as ebullient as the bottle in Bordeaux last year, but it has great vivacity and purity towards the finish. Sappy blackberry, boysenberry and strawberry with a touch of Asian spice. Excellent. Drink now-2025. Tasted June 2009, Neal Martin, RobertParker.com, July 2009
