Cantina Soc. Giogantinu, Sardinia

This 1968 red wine from Sardinia is an unusual and rare blend of indigenous and international grape varieties. The wine should display a garnet colour with with aromas and flavours of ripe fruit and jam.

It’s been almost 70 years since a small group of winegrowers from the town of Berchidda in Sardinia decided to get together to create the Giogantinu cooperative.

The cooperative still upholds the dedication, commitment and desire to cultivate their vineyards with care.

Castiglione del Bosco

Rosso di Montalcino is found in the same defined area as its bigger brother, the Brunello di Montalcino DOCG. Both are situated in the heart of Tuscany, in central Italy. This DOC was created in 1984 in order to make the most of the fruit from younger vines of new plantings. The idea was to create a fresher style of wine that needed considerably less ageing time (one year with only six months in oak) than its sibling. The vineyards are situated on the upper hills at an altitude of up to 2296ft (700m). The wine must be made from a minimum 60% Sangiovese, balanced by smaller portions of Montepulciano.

Real Companhia Velha Vintage Port

From the outstanding 1970 vintage. The colour is more tawny than red, and fairly light. It gives the distinct impression of a very old, very mature vintage Port.
The nose gives a strong impression of honey and is followed by sweet grapes and soft red fruits. Very slightly spirity, but not so much that it interferes. This all changes after 5 hours as the honey and fruits nearly vanish and the nose became spirity.
Palate: Very soft and elegant with a very faint smokey note. There's more "sweet" to it than anything else, but it's not a pure sugary sweetness but rather the remains of a sweet fruit compote. …

Vintage Madeira

Provenance from Christies.

Some early 19th century bottles are found branded Rufino Teixeira and this is relative to the RT on this bottle. Teixeira is an old Madeira family, Tristão Vaz Teixeira being one of the first to discover the Island in the 15th century (in 1419, 600 years ago!)

In January 2019 we received the following email.

The wine is Sercial and the bottle was painted by my grandfather, which was a Madeira Wine exporter around the year 1910.
