Taittinger, 1990

Vintage Champagne Corneille

Taittinger Collection Corneille 1990

Vintage & Collection Background
The 1990 “Corneille” is part of Taittinger’s Collection Series, an artist-edition line in which great vintages are paired with unique bottle artwork. This edition features the work of the Dutch artist Corneille, known for lyrical, vibrant paintings, often including whimsical imagery of birds, cats, women, and bold colour. The wine in this bottle is drawn from a hand-picked selection from vintage 1990, when conditions in Champagne gave excellent ripeness and balance.

Blend & Ageing
The blend is roughly equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, reflecting Taittinger’s philosophy of combining elegance and structure.

Taittinger, 1992

Vintage Champagne Matta Label in presentation box

As the years went by, Matta’s work, influenced for a long time by the violence and oppression that sadly marked this era, became subdued and more poetic.

These are some of the characteristics found on the design he created in his homage to Champagne. Matta leads the design with poppies, a well-known symbol of war remembrance and painted them on an ochre background. These flowers represent a need for nostalgia, yet a spirit of continuation all the same. Calligraphic marks, reminiscent of the famous ‘automatic writing’ of the surrealists, run across the design.

The bottle contains a Brut Millésimé 1992, made from a combination of Chardonnay (50 %) and Pinot Noir (50 %).

Taittinger, 1998

Artists Collection Zao Wou-Ki Label, Vintage Champagne

Taittinger Collection Zao Wou-Ki 1998

Vintage & Artist Edition Background
The Zao Wou-Ki edition is one of the later releases in Taittinger’s Collection Series, where great vintages are paired with artwork by noted artists. The artist here, Zao Wou-Ki, was a Chinese-French abstract painter famous for his luminous, flowing works that blur the boundary between landscape and abstraction. The 1998 vintage was selected because it offered ripeness, balance, and intensity, considered by Taittinger among the strong harvests.

Blend & Vineyard Sources
This Champagne is a Brut Millésimé made from an equal or near-equal blend of Chardonnay (50%) and Pinot Noir (50%),

Vintage Port
Level in Neck
100 points - Neil Martin Vinous

From the very good 1948 vintage, this very rare Taylors vintage port is one of the finest ports ever made

There is Vintage Port and then there is the 1948 Taylor Fladgate. It remains a monumental Port that towers over the 20th century. Nineteen forty-eight is perhaps one of the lesser-known declarations compared to 1945 and 1963, although nine houses declared that year. Michael Broadbent described that as an “error of judgment” given the quality of the vintage in retrospect. I have been fortunate to taste the 1948 Taylors on several occasions, encountering one or two perfect bottles along the way.

Vintage Port
English bottled by Hatch, Manfield and Co.
Provenance: Christies Sale Raby Castle

1948 Taylor's Vintage Port. A legendary Port still remarkably deep in color for its age, this vintage Port bursts with a striking nose, revealing an exotic combination of tropical fruit. The palate mirrors this exuberance, delivering a voluptuous richness with a gloriously smooth texture and luxurious mouthfeel. Mid-palate, the fruit’s opulence takes center stage, momentarily masking the underlying structural, spicy tannins that gradually emerge. The finish is nothing short of perfection, with layers of soft summer strawberries and fresh tropical vibrancy leaving an enduring impression of harmony and elegance.

Taylor Fladgate, 1965

Quinta de Vargellas Vintage Port

Quinta de Vargellas is one of the Douro Valley’s most iconic vineyards and the historic backbone of Taylor Fladgate. Located in the remote eastern Douro, its steep, schist terraces produce wines of precision, structure, and longevity. In years when a full vintage is not declared—such as 1965—the estate’s best fruit is bottled as a single-quinta vintage, offering a purer expression of site.

Vargellas Ports are typically more linear, aromatic, and finely structured than the broader Taylor style, with hallmark notes of wild herbs, floral lift, and mineral tension. Over time, they evolve with remarkable grace, making older examples like 1965 compelling not for sheer power, but for their complexity, balance, and sense of place.

Taylor Fladgate, 2011

Vintage Port
Magnum Bottle (150cl)

The 2011 Taylor's Vintage Port Wine is made only in exceptional years, following the rigorous selection and tasting process to meet the requirements for declaration. Historically Taylor's has only declared a maximum of 3 vintages per decade. 2011 has been hailed as a classic vintage by all accounts. Ideal ripening conditions in this year have led Fladgate wine-maker David Guimaraens to conclude that the 2011's 'stand out for the purity of the fruit and the quality of the tannins, which are silky and well integrated but provide plenty of structure. The 2011 vintage is textbook Taylor's in its structured aromatics and elegance (according to Fladgate Managing Director Adrian Bridge).

Taylor Fladgate, 2018

Vintage Port
***98 Points- Wine Enthusiast***
***95 Points- Wine Advocate***

This is the third consecutive declaration by Taylor's a highly unusual event. The release has been delayed due to the current situation. Managing Director Adrian Bridge writes
"Adrian Bridge, Managing Director:
“Although a Classic declaration normally only happens about three times a decade, the exceptional run of years has meant that Taylor’s has been able to make a third in a row. This is very unusual but our principle is that we declare a Classic Vintage when the quality is there. This is dictated by the year, not by any other consideration. All our properties are farmed so that every grape has the potential to become Vintage Port.
