Madeira, 1950

MBV - Tinta Negra - Bottled by Barbeito

This is a rare and very limited release of the 1950 Madeira from the family cellars. The bottles are in perfect condition. There is something ethereal about tasting such a rare vintage. The 1950 Tinta Negra is very dry as one would expect from this style of Madeira. There is a huge amount happening on the complexity front with some bitter nut skin notes with dried flowers and citrus pith. Although quite dry, this does not come across as too severe. An electric wine that is astonishingly refreshing. Massive finish that goes on and on.

Madeira, 1950

Rutherford and Miles Sercial Madeira

The *1950 Rutherford & Miles Sercial Madeira* is a rare and distinguished example of one of Madeira’s most captivating wine styles. Now over 70 years old, it stands as both a fascinating piece of Madeira’s winemaking history and a truly exceptional tasting experience.

In the glass, it would present a burnished amber-gold hue with glints of green at the rim, a hallmark of venerable Madeira.

1980 Madeira – di Savorgnana, Podere del Sole (Madeira, Portugal)

A rare, fully mature vintage Madeira bottled for di Savorgnana / Podere del Sole, showing the island’s hallmark tension between luscious sweetness and tangy, sea-breeze freshness. The nose is gloriously complex: orange marmalade and candied peel, Medjool date and fig, toasted almond and walnut, caramel/treacle and brûlée crust, with classic rancio tones of varnished oak, iodine and salt toffee.

Silky yet electric on the palate. Layers of candied citrus, raisin and toffee are cut by rapier acidity;

Niepoort Port, 1900

Colheita Port, DOC Douro

Reviews
"This brings back a fond memory of a long lost friend, Paul Napolitano from NY. He once opened this identical Port for me years ago at his home and at the time, it was the finest Colheita I had experienced, as well as the oldest. This one was bottled in 1976 or 1977. A piece is torn off the label and makes it impossible to be certain. Dark coffee color with a greenish edge. Is this Madeira? A nose of bouillon cube, scents of sea breeze and toffee, reminiscent of a Malvasia and the richness and supple spine live up to that mindset. The palate is packed with copious caramel and fig flavors along with prunes and toffee intricately woven into a neat little package.

Niepoort Port, 1977

Vintage Port

From the outstanding 1977 vintage. The excellent Niepoort is one of the smallest producers of port. Their ports are sought after by collectors and port lovers.

Reviews:
"Light, bright red color. Perfume of candied red fruits and roses. Tasted of red fruits, roses and violets. More roses and violets. Some citrus peel as well, but muted. Silky, seductive and elegant. Alcohol well integrated. This was a truly amazing and luscious port, even if not what I expected. More fruit and flowers than most ports are, but just beautiful. Glad I still have one more bottle." Already famous for their classic tawny ports, they have now joined the ranks of the great producers of Vintage Port.
