Chateau Climens, 1976

Barsac, 1st Growth
Sweet White Wine
bin Soiled and damaged labels - good levels.

The 1976 Climens has a lovely nose of mandarin, orange-blossom and a touch of peach. A little “smudged” by alcohol. The palate has a ripe, citrus and mandarin inspired entry, vibrant palate with good depth, touches of quince and barley sugar towards the finish. Good length. Neil Martin Wine Journal 88 Points

Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 1986

St Estephe, 2nd Growth Classification

95 Points - Robert Parker

Reviews: "The 1986 is a highly extracted wine, with a black/ruby color and plenty of toasty, smoky notes in its bouquet that suggest ripe plums and licorice. Evolving at a glacial pace, it exhibits massive, huge, ripe, extremely concentrated flavors with impressive depth and richness. It possesses power, weight, and tannin." Parker, Wine Advocate 1994

"his bottle is similar to the one last year: dense, masculine, wet sand, austere on the nose, as if the wine is slamming a door in your face, but after a time there is a lovely touch of cardamom that develops. The palate suggests that it is worth cellaring,

Chateau Cos d'Estournel, 2002

St Estephe, 2nd Growth Classification, Bordeaux
** 93 Points- RobertParker.com **

93 Points (Parker)
94 Points (Wine Journal)

Reviews "One of the candidates for wine of the vintage, this beauty has a dense purple color to the rim and a classic, noble nose of graphite intermixed with black currant, spice box, licorice, and red and black fruits. Medium to full-bodied with exceptional precision and definition, this beautifully textured wine stands out as one of the most successful wines of this irregular vintage. A brilliant effort, it should be at its best between 2008 and 2020." PArker Wine Advocate, 2005

"Just a fantastic wine…clean, fresh, bright and bushy tailed on the nose with blackberry, raspberry, cedar-wood and a real palpable sense of terroir.

Chateau Doisy-Vedrines, 1949

Barsac

Chateau d'Yquem, 1976

Sauternes, 1st Growth Classification
Half Bottle 37.5cl

Yquem is without doubt, one of the world's finest wine producers, of whom Robert Parker comments: "There is no other wine in the world like it, and there is no other luxury wine that can possibly justify its price as much as Yquem. The remarkable amount of painstaking labor necessary to produce the nectar known as Yquem is almost impossible to comprehend."

"The 1976 Yquem continues to go from strength to strength. Who can ignore the awesome bouquet of spices, honeyed fruit, pineapples, bananas, coconuts, and overripe melons? This full-bodied, viscous, luscious wine has been absolutely delicious since bottling, given its relatively low acidity and precocious personality.

Chateau d'Yquem, 1983

Sauternes 1er Grand Cru Classe
Individual Yquem Wooden Case

Yquem is indisputedly the best wine in Sauternes and may well be the finest sweet wine in the world.

*** 96 Points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews
"The 1983 ranks among the most concentrated wines from this property over the last 25 years, with a staggering display of extract and a mind-boggling amount of glycerin. The vintage commenced early for d'Yquem, beginning on September 29th and finishing on November 18th. The 1983 is enormous, with huge, honeyed, pineapple, coconut, and caramel flavors, massive extract, and an unctuous quality barely framed by acidity and new oak. The wine has changed little since bottling.

Yquem is indisputedly the best wine in Sauternes and may well be the finest sweet wine in the world.

*** 99/100 Points - Parker ***

"The 1988 is a backward-styled Yquem, built along the lines of the extraordinary 1975. With a honeyed, smoky, orange/coconut/pineapple-scented nose, this powerful wine possesses full body, layers of highly concentrated, extracted flavors, considerable botrytis, and a sensational finish. Chateau d'Yquem, 1990

Sauternes 1er Cru Classe
98 Points - Wine Advocate

A warm to hot vintage ideal for producing outstanding reds does not necessarily make for a great Sauternes vintage, but in the case of 1990 it did. Dry, warm winds in the autumn contributed to the level of concentration that this wine exhibits. Fortunately, a little rain in late September and early October ensured that botrytis flourished well in the end, the final factor necessary to achieve this extraordinary expression.

The 1990 d'Yquem is medium to deep golden colored, the 1990 d'Yquem opens with unabashed opulence, giving expressive notes of dried apricots, toffee, candied walnut, tree bark and sandalwood with nuances of preserved mandarin peel, lemongrass and fallen leaves.

Chateau Giscours, 1975

Margaux, 3rd Growth Classification

92 Points - Robert parker

Reviews
"The 1975 Giscours is one of the outstanding successes for the vintage. Close to full maturity, it exhibits a powerful, well-balanced style. The color remains a healthy dark garnet. The wine possesses rich, concentrated fruit, full body, admirable ripeness, and an overall sense of balance despite strong tannin in the finish. This thick, rich Giscours may be the finest wine made between 1970-1994. It will continue to drink well." Robert parker 1996.

Chateau Gruaud Larose, 1979

St Julien 2nd Growth Classification

**Cellar tracker review - 2013**
Clear ruby red with almost no bricking. Classic St. Julien nose with black currants, tobacco leaves and some pencil shavings. No signs of oxidation. On the palate surprisingly vigorous for a wine with 37 years under its belt. Acidity clearly dominates the almost completely resolved tannins. Slightly astringent towards the medium+ finish. A very impressive effort from Gruaud Larose in a rather weak vintage.

Chateau Haut Brion, 1976

Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe
(in neck, scuffed label)

The 1976 Haut-Brion is medium ruby in color, with some amber creeping in at the edges. The wine has been fully mature since the early eighties, yet it is still drinking well. A spicy, earthy, oaky, moderately fruity bouquet offers elegance. On the palate, the wine is soft, round, medium bodied, and charming. Robert Parker.

Tasted at the Academie du Vin from ex-château bottles, the 1976 Haut Brion is actually a vintage that I have never tasted before... the bouquet has held up well with cocoa-tinged dark fruit, terracotta and dried blood. It feels a little diffuse, but it still rings of Haut Brion.

Chateau Haut Brion, 1980

Pessac Leognan 1er Grand Cru Classe

The 1980 Haut prion is a flattering, gentle, medium-bodied wine with a smoky, vanillin oakiness, round, ripe flavors, and a soft, luscious finish. It lacks some guts and richness by the standards of most Haut-Brion vintages since 1978, but, nevertheless, it is a charming, lighter-weight, forward wine that has reached its plateau of maturity.

Chateau Haut Brion, 1983

Pessac-Leognan First Growth Classification

"A very earthy, melted asphalt, creosote-like nose intermixed with compost, decaying autumnal vegetation, and herb-tinged fruit is actually more appealing than it might sound. In the mouth the wine is fleshy, medium-bodied, relatively lush, but the garnet colour is showing considerable amber. Drink up." Robert Parker, 2003

Château Haut-Brion 1983 is a fully mature Left Bank Bordeaux from the stellar Haut-Brion First Growth. Located in Pessac-Léognan, Haut-Brion has the distinction of being the only property outside Médoc to be designated Premier Cru Classé in the 1855 Classification.
