Vintage Wine and Port have secured a few ultra-rare bottles of 1968 Sandeman's Port. These bottles are of exceptional provenance - they are library stock released exclusively to VWP from the Sandeman Cellars in Oporto.

Tasted by our wine buyer at the Sandeman 20 Vintage Tasting November 2013. "Tawny rim; good nose, some cigar, spice and chocolate, dried fruit. On the palate, ripe and sweet not quite in tune but still quite opulent with integrated tannins. Excellent finish - my first tasting of a '68 and quite a surprise for a generally undeclared year. Nose: Sweet Christmas spices. Rich, round sugar. Turpentine.
Palate: Some tannins, edgy. On the dry side for Port (which is typical to me for Sandeman). Decent fruit.
Finish: Medium length. Finish seems younger than the Port's age.

From the excellent 1935 Vintage, Bottled to commemorate George V Jubilee. The port is tawny with some red in colour. Showing little on the nose, perhaps some hints of concentrated redcurrant. Smooth and concentrated on entry; full bodied and with good weight. Blossoms beautifully in the mouth, develops and grows. Explodes on the aftertaste with huge fruit flavours dominating - mature and sweet. Incredible finish! An astonishing wine. After 5½ hours in the glass this had even developed hints of tannins!

Gentle on the palate, with soft, sweet raspberries with a bit of birch sap on the late palate. Fabulous development and complexity.
