Description

The 1988 Batailley has a meaty, savoury nose with aromas of roasted chestnut, rusty iron piping and smoke. Somehow it is reminiscent of a mature, Cabernet Franc based Saint Emilion. The palate is medium-bodied with good acidity, quite elegant and cohesive although it does not have the depth of a top-flight Pauillac from this vintage. Grainy and a little mushroomy towards the finish, but quite caressing and pleasurable.
