Prats & Symington was founded in 1999 as a joint venture between the well known Bordeaux winemaker, Bruno Prats and the Symington family. It is an independent company specialising in dry red wines which has been at the forefront of the DOC Douro quality revolution and instrumental in driving forward the high quality image of the region.

The Prazo de Roriz is characterized in particular by red fruits, raspberries and cherries and the Roriz terroir provides a distinctive minerality and appealing peppery spice. Made for drinking young, but with the potential for developing in-bottle for several years.

Prats and Symington, 2019

Chryseia

The 2019 Chryseia has received much critical acclaim as it is the first non-fortified Portuguese red to appear in Wine Spectator's annual Top 100 Wines. Chryseia has been one of the pioneers of the now widely-recognised resurgence of non-fortified DOURO DOC wines. However, this wine, whose name means "golden" in ancient Greek – as does the name of the river in Portuguese – has remained true to its own style. Elegance and balance predominate and it has depth without heaviness, and body without sharpness.

*** 90 Points - Robert Parker ***

Post Scriptum is the second wine of Bordeaux winemaker Bruno Prats and the Symington family's Chryseia.

The 2020 Post Scriptum reveals an intense nose, opulent, with notes of blackberries, blueberries, bramble. The palate is rich, juicy, heady, revealing nuances of red and black cherries, cooked strawberries, sweet baking spices. Good quality tannins, pleasant and long finish. Primitivo, 2003

Cassine di Pietra

Primitivo is a dark-skinned grape known for producing inky, tannic wines, particularly Primitivo di Manduria and its naturally sweet Dolce Naturale variant. A classic Primitivo wine is high in both alcohol and tannins, intensely flavored and deeply colored. A certain bitterness is often found in Primitivo which, combined with its mouth-puckering tannins, means that it needs a few years in either bottle or barrel.

Quarles Harris Vintage Port, 1977

Vintage Port

***18/20, Jancis Robinson***

Healthy ruby with a brick rim. Quite subtle already; there is some perceptible evolution of colour and flavour here. Mineral rather than fruit flavours dominate. Very big and full. Very, very sweet indeed - in fact I thought it was from a Portuguese house. This wine delivers a pretty good combination of power, interest and, especially, sweetness. This is not a wine to be ignored! But it's a very particular style....without enormous tannic reserves. Jancis Robinson

Quarles Harris Vintage Port, 1997

Vintage Port, Douro

Established in 1680, Quarles Harris became a subsidiary of Warre in 18th century. Since then, Quarles Harris has continued making good Ports under the Symington's ownership. Peter Symington, has a simple saying to remember about Quarles Harris: "Unless they are good we don't bottle them, having ensured that tradition and expertise is passed from generation to generation thus maintaining the excellent reputation of Quarles Harris.

An elegant, dense purple-colored offering, this 1997 offers up sweet aromas of melted licorice intermixed with blackberries, black raspberries, and cassis. Soft, precocious, and pure, this medium-bodied, suave, graceful port should be approachable in 4-5 years and last until 2040.
