Barros Port, 1999

Colheita Port

The 1999 Barros Colheita Port is a beautifully matured single-vintage Tawny Port, aged in oak casks for over two decades before bottling. Sourced from selected old vineyards in the Douro Valley, this wine reflects the expertise of Barros in crafting nuanced, time-aged Ports. Its long ageing process has transformed vibrant youthful fruit into a silky, elegant wine full of complexity and depth.

Barros Port, 1999

Vintage Port
Half Bottle (37.5cl)

The 1999 Barros Vintage Port is a mature, traditionally styled wine from a lesser-declared but quietly elegant vintage. Now over two decades old, this vintage has developed impressive tertiary character while retaining Barros’ hallmark structure and depth. Produced from a blend of high-quality grapes grown in the Douro Valley, it offers a classic expression of aged vintage port.

In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet centre fading to a brick-orange rim — a visual cue to its maturity. The nose is complex and mellow, unfolding with notes of dried black cherries, stewed plums, figs, and dark chocolate, layered with hints of cedarwood, leather, and a faint echo of eucalyptus.

Barros Port, 2002

Vintage Port

The Barros 2002 Vintage Port has a 95% opaque centre, just starting to change colour on the rim. Lovely and open on the nose, softly fruity. Silky texture on the palate with lovely fruit and a good balance. The flavours and complexity grows really well with violets all over the palate. A lingering aftertaste and finish which is full of slightly spicy red licorice. 90/100. www.ThePortForum review.

Barros Port, 2005

Vintage Port Includes Gift Box

The Barros 2005 vintage port has a very solid, vivid crimson colour and a nose that is rather spirity at first, with a fresh, almost herbal edge to bright raspberry and vinous fruit, in a style that immediately suggests this is a lighter, more fresh style of Port. On the palate there is plenty of sweetness, with cassis and ripe, sweet liquidised cherry, but also a touch of raisin and date-like fruit. A certain silky, vanilla and thick plum underpinning emerges into the finish, but so does some quite grippy tannin and again a slightly spiritous edge in a wine that perhaps will become a little more harmonious with time in bottle.

On 5 April, 2014, noted Madeira specialist Richard Mason wrote of this wine: “One of a set of solera wines released in the 1950s and 1960s. This was probably bottled between 1956 and 1960 and is based on the 1836 Campanário that Walter Grabham left to the Blandy family on his death in 1955. Deep mahogany colour; rich smoky nose, autumnal bonfires and a touch of forest floor; rich lemon and lime marmalade with lovely mouthfeel and texture, leading to a delicate marmalade finish. ”
