Baron de Sigognac, 1926

Vintage Armagnac

Heir of many centuries of savoir-faire and tradition: the Sigognac house is one of the oldest one of Armagnac.

In Armagnac, legend has it that, one day long ago,
Baron de Sigognac took all the traditional clocks
out of his cellars.
Fascinated by the mystery surrounding
the way Armagnac ages so well,
he had some very strange timepieces made.
On these clocks, the face had ten divisions instead of twelve.
The seconds had become years, the big hand moved only once a decade and the hour hand marked the centuries.
Baron de Sigognac had found the core of the mystery of Armagnac ageing : time and patience…
The legend adds that,

Barros Port, 1996

Colheita Port
***Decanter 95 points- Gold Award Winner 2021***

Vivid golden colour. Rich and elegant nose, combining the dried fruits aromas with the aromatic wood notes. Soft and silky in the taste, full with ripe figs and sweet flavours. A sensation of depth, in an elegant and distinctive style. Perfect and overwhelming finish.

Colheita, or single harvest ports, are aged in the barrel. Contrast this with vintage ports which are aged in the bottle and only have a short drinking window after opening. Colheita ports have had air working on them through the cask during all the years of aging, giving them a open-life of a month or longer. Lighter and more delicate than vintage ports,

Barros Port, 2005

Vintage Port, Douro
Includes Barros gift box

The Barros 2005 vintage port has a very solid, vivid crimson colour and a nose that is rather spirity at first, with a fresh, almost herbal edge to bright raspberry and vinous fruit, in a style that immediately suggests this is a lighter, more fresh style of Port. On the palate there is plenty of sweetness, with cassis and ripe, sweet liquidised cherry, but also a touch of raisin and date-like fruit. A certain silky, vanilla and thick plum underpinning emerges into the finish, but so does some quite grippy tannin and again a slightly spiritous edge in a wine that perhaps will become a little more harmonious with time in bottle.

A 2011 Barros Vintage Port Wine.
In the same year Barros celebrated its 100th anniversary, the exquisite 2011 Barros Vintage Port surprised Kim Marcus of Wine Spectator with a "burst on the palate," being a "powerful and heavy" wine, with hints of "raspberries and blueberries, balanced with freshness and acidity." For this American critic, this wine is "distinct, revealing powerful notes of smoke and spices in a refined finish." Recommended by the critic, this wine is ready to drink now.
