Chateau Musar, 1981

Bekaar Valley, Gaston Hochar

The 1981 Musar is a blend of Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Carignan from this well-known and highly regarded Lebanese winery.

"A great wine, no question. Well balanced: melted but strong tannic backbone, good acidity, lovely fruit. " Cellar Tracker Review Average 91 Points,

Chateau Musar is often referred to as the Lafite of the Lebanon. Wine maker Gaston Hochar defied the odds producing a string of great wines during the Lebanon War. Musar has assumed legendary status. Complex, long-lived and endlessly varied, in some vintages it seems more like a Burgundy, in others a Bordeaux, in still others a Hermitage.

Chianti, 1981

Ruffino - Riserva Ducale

Chianti, situated in Tuscany in central Italy, is home to probably the best-known and most iconic of all Italian wines.
The area’s most highly regarded wines come from the Chianti Classico zone which is the heartland of the Chianti wine region – its traditional and longest-established vinicultural area. This fame is due not just to the high quality of the wines, but also to the classico zone's iconic Tuscan landscape and wine making traditions. This Chianti is characterised by its red and black cherry character, intermingled with notes of wild herbs, mint and spice, supported by a racy acidity and mellow tannins.

J W Hart, 1981

Colheita Single Harvest Port
Includes original carton gift box

Having spent at least seven and, in this case, a lot more years in cask, this beautiful 1981 colheita port from JW Hart is essentially a tawny port with a vintage date. On the nose it displays seductive marmalade, orange peel, citrus compote and quince jelly aromas. Luscious on the palate, although it has been bottled in 2013, this port shows great freshness with a lively acidity that balances the intensity of fruit beautifully. The flavours continue to evolve and alongside the jammy fruit aromas, caramel, allspice, walnuts and dried mushrooms emerge offering layers of complexity. The alcohol

Sandeman Vintage Port

40 Year Old Tawny Port
Decanter 2020 Gold Award Winner Comes in Original Gift Tube

Sandeman is a regular Decanter World Wine Awards Gold Trophy winner for its supremely refined tawnies. This has lovely lifted aromas and flavours of chocolate, covered sultanas and orange peel. Seductive and creamy with perfect poise for its age.

Deep and intense, with aromas of vanilla, oak and honey, Sandeman 40 Year Tawny Port has wonderful tasting notes of dried fruits, spices, and nut. Serve chilled to enjoy each layered flavour to the max.

Dark raisin and dried apricot flavours manifest on this immensely dark, old gold hued wine. Enormous concentration, as with the initially, almost painful acidity that comes through the spirit.

Taylor's Port, 1981

Late Bottled Vintage Port

Late Bottled Vintage port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks (opposed to Vintage that ages 2-3). LBV fills the gap between the rubies and the vintage ports since a Ruby Port should be drunk quite young and a great Vintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to really open up and show its splendour. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it.

LBV's display the style of a Vintage Port with its deep colour and concentration of fruit but with a more mature character caused by the longer ageing in wood.

Ryst-Dupeyon Armagnac, 1980

Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle

The 1980 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905.

The company behind this Armagnac owns one of the most important stocks of old vintages in the whole region. They are growers as well as distillers and specialise in sourcing and ageing old casks of Armagnac.

The Armagnac is made from a blend of Baco and Ugni Blanc, the predominant grapes used in the production of Armagnac. The distillation takes place in a column still to an alcohol strength of about 54%. The spirit is then aged in local black oak casks. The alcohol content then reduces naturally to about 40% after about forty years. In presentation case.
