Fonseca Port, 2017

Vintage Port
MAGNUM (150 cl) Single bottle

Review Scores
*** 17.5/20 - Jancis ***
*** 95/100 - Vinous ***
*** 18/20 - Mayson ***

Tasting Note
A narrow magenta ring around a core of inky purple black. The nose opens with a burst of dark, woodland fruit, dense and succulent, blended with fresher, more vibrant red berry aromas. A slatey minerality holds this exuberant fruitiness in check. At this stage, the nose is still reserved and discreetly aromatic, revealing leafy, balsamic scents and cedary notes of sawn wood. The first impression on the palate, as on the nose, is of tightly packed, dense dark berry fruit, which then explodes on the mid-palate and surges into the long finish.

Graham's Port, 2017

Late Bottled Vintage Port

The 2017 Graham´s Late Bottled Vintage Port is very deep purple in colour with an intense garnet edge. The wine offers enticing aromas of red and black fruits with some lovely mint and eucalyptus notes. It is generous on the palate, with Graham’s typical opulence, revealing delicious blackberry fruit underscored by ripe, polished tannins, which give the wine great freshness and vitality. The finish reveals Graham’s signature complexity and elegance in equal measure. A superb wine, selected from the finest production of a very good year.

Late Bottled Vintage Port is matured in a seasoned oak barrel and then bottled at between four and six years of age, whereas Vintage Port spends two years in casks and then matures in bottle.

Since being introduced in 1986, Vin de Constance has consistently appeared in lists of the world’s top wines.
The wine is made by grapes grown on the foothills of the cool climate hills of Constantia. “The grapes are left to hang to dry on the vine and only the best bunches are selected and hand-picked,” reveals winemaker Matthew Day. “At the end of the growing season, the individual berries or raisins are hand picked to make the essence, the very heart of the Vin de Constance.”

Messias, 2017

Vintage Port

The 2018 Messias Vintage Port is one of our best value 2018 ports. However, there is no compromise on quality from this popular Portuguese shipper. The 2018 has a nose of a classic port, It has a moderate nose of brandied alcohol. The port is slightly drier than the traditional English shippers and may be a little more approachable to those new to Port wines. Good palate of cherries, liquorice, a moderate hit of alcohol with substantive fruit. Very enjoyable with some blue cheeses and pears.

Reviews:
The 2017 Vintage Port is a field blend, which is mostly represented as Touriga Franca (30%), Touriga Nacional (20%) and Tinta Roriz (15%), with dollops of others for the rest. This was the final blend, but it was about two weeks from bottling when seen.

Quevedo, 2017

Claudias Tinto
Red Douro Wine

The 2017 Claudia's Reserve red wine is a roughly equal blend of Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz with dollops (about 5% combined) of Tinto Cão and Tinta Amarela, aged for 12 months in second use French oak. It is a ripe, tannic and herbal wine, this has been produced for aging. It shows a dark tannic side over the juicy black plum fruits and berry flavors. The wood aging shows in the way the wine smoothes out at the end, leaving a rich, full-bodied aftertaste.

Winemakers Notes
Most of the wines from the Douro are named after the vineyards where the grapes that make the wine come from.

Once a year or even once in a lifetime, important landmarks celebrate the end of a year, a birth, or an anniversary. Q Grande Reserva can be a gift for loved ones or kept for special occasions, especially if it's of rare and superb make. This is the opportunity for a toast (and a speech!) to mark and remember these moments with friends. Forever. In every "Q" release, we blend our local choice of grapes, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, and Tinta Roriz, famous for their small and intensely perfumed fruit. After a rainy winter and a hot summer,

Late Bottled Vintage Port
Was £21.95 Now only £13.95
91 Points - Wine Advocate

A 2017 Late Bottled Vintage Port Wine from Quevedo.
Sourced from the winery's quintas at Vale d’Agodinho and Trovisca, this is dry, light and lifted. It's not the richest and deepest of the LBVs I've seen from this producer, but its focus and the length on the finish are superb. Very expressive as well, this shows brilliantly just now. It can also age and develop if you want to hold it.

Quinta da Fonte Souto, 2017

Red Wine

Lying on the slopes of the São Mamede Range at an altitude of 500 metres in the Alentejo sub-region of Portalegre, the property benefits from cooler and wetter conditions than the hot Alentejo plain. The Fonte Souto wines express the freshness and elegance provided by the altitude, as well as the structure and complexity from the estate’s extensive collection of mature, low-yielding vines.

The Fonte Souto Estate red wine embodies all the strengths of the property’s unique terroir: the freshness and balance afforded by the altitude; the concentration, which derives from mature, low-yielding vines, and the complexity and structure provided by the judicious combination of grape varieties.

Quinta de la Rosa, 2017

Vintage Port

La Rosa's classic house style achieved by slow maceration in traditional granite 'Lagares' has produced a wine full of luscious forward fruit with a very attractive nose and a long velvety slightly drier finish across the palate

La Rosa is a vertically integrated Quinta rising to 450 metres above sea level, boasting many hidden micro climates within its cirtilage. Where possible we vintage and mature these small 'lotes' separately in order to achieve the maximum complexity in the finished ports, which would not have been possible from a less diversely planted property.

Quinta do Vesuvio, 2017

Pombal do Vesuvio, Douro Red

Pombal do Vesuvio comes from the terraced vineyards that surround the ancient dovecote, ‘pombal’ in Portuguese, situated at 200 meters in the heart of this beautiful and remote property. These vineyards are primarily planted with Touriga Nacional. 2017 was the second driest year on record in the Douro and the hottest of the last four decades. Between March and September, the cumulative rainfall deficit averaged 50%. The dry, mild winter was followed by a hot spring, with seasonal temperatures 2.6ºC above the average. However, the resilient regional grape varieties adjusted early on to the exceptionally dry conditions that prevailed from the outset of the year.

Tasting notes
Opaque black at the centre with a narrow purple rim. Uncompromisingly Taylor’s in style, elegant and precise. The nose is threaded with very fine, linear fruit, heady and complex but restrained by a graphite minerality. Quinta da Vargellas has imprinted its signature fragrance of violets, which hangs like a scented veil over the wine, and there are discreet terroir notes of citrus, wild herbs and gumcistus. The nose is still reserved and discreet but there is impressive depth and background, as well as hints of complexities still to emerge with time.
