Quinta da Devesa

Sale

20 year old White Tawny Port in presentation box (50cl)
92 Points - Robert Parker

Tasting Notes:

The 20 Years White Port is a field blend from old vines (50 plus years). It was bottled in January 2015 with 105 grams per liter of residual sugar. Fresh, lovely and delectable, this is perfectly balanced, focused and young. There isn't a lot of complexity early on (noting that this a 20), but it does show some more mature flavors as it airs and warms. Impeccably balanced, this is a beautiful 20 that lingers endlessly and tastes just great. Note that this was tasted from a 500-milliliter bottle.

The Quinta da Devesa Colheita Tawny is orange-brown in coloir with a slight verdant edge.

Ribera del Duero, 2002

Bodega Aster

This 2002 red wine comes from the famous Ribera del Duero region in Spain. Then garnet core cedes to a lively iridescent rim and a generous open nose which marries Asian spice and dark dark fruit….the palate is more reserved than one would have thought, with dignified floral notes and very finely poised tannins underlining a near-Burgundian purity that is born of day-night temperature variations during the growing season.

Ryst Dupeyron Armagnac, 2001

Ryst Dupeyron Reserve Joseph Millesime vintage Armagnac
50cl bottle

The 2001 Dupeyron Armagnac is the expression of a single year and has a unique character associated with the year and the cask in which it has been stored. These vintages are bottled at the alcohol level in which they naturally come out of the cask. There is a wonderful contrast between the sweet and sour flavours of wood, amplified by the strong alcoholic degree. Rich palate feeling the alcohol and the concentration of dry plums, spicy with persistent flavour of rancio and of spices, but round, soft and long in the finish. The tannins are very present, but full-bodied and round.

The Maison Ryst-Dupeyon was founded by Joseph Dupeyron in 1905.

Barbaresco, 2001

Teo Costa - Lancaia

Barbaresco is one of the great wines of Italy's north-western Piedmont region. This aristocratic red has its vineyards situated in the Langhe, on the right-hand side of the Tanaro river and extending from the area north-east of Alba to the communes of Barbaresco, Nieve and Treiso. The dominant variety grown is Nebbiolo, but Dolcetto and Barbera also play a part. The vines are generally grown on limestone-rich marl soils. similar to the Tortonium soils of the Barolo and La Morra areas in Barolo. Similar to its more famous sibling Barolo, Barbaresco is made from 100% Nebbiolo and shares its cult status as one of the finest wines in the world.

Chateau Cissac, 2001

Medoc, Cru Bourgeois
Magnum bottle

A 2001 vintage Bordeaux wine. The 2001 has a good rich colour - browning just a little at the rim. This bottle demands patience when opening as it needs time to develop. Good blackcurrant nose. Plum, damson on the palate with balancing blackcurrant acidity. Dusty tannins on the end palate at first but the tannin softened in the glass, even without food.
With food it is excellent. Rich fruit, good acidity, a good partner. This is the beauty of decent Cru Bourgeois Bordeaux - it makes demands on the taster (patience and consideration).

Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste, 2001

Pauillac 5me Cru Classe

*** 93 Points - Wine Journal ***

Tasted at the chateau, the 2001 at ten years of age has superb intensity on the nose with black cherries, melted tar, graphite and cold black tea all with fine vigour and vivacity. The palate is medium-bodied with a cohesive, quite powerful entry that sets the stage for a very poised, focused GPL. From its rather awkward showings out of barrel, the 2001 is blossoming into a sublime expression of Pauillac in this vintage. I would still afford it more time though. Tasted March 2011. Chateau Haut Bailly, 2001

Graves Grand Cru Classe

** 92 Points (Outstanding ) Neil Martin ***

Reviews:
"Tasted at Berry Brother & Rudd’s vertical. The 2001 is more expressive and generous on the nose than the 2000 and for me, it exudes more Graves-like character thanks to the 65% Cabernet Sauvignon. There are scents of blackberry, pencil shaving, a touch of fresh black olive with tertiary aromas developing with time. The palate is medium-bodied but rounder, perhaps fatter than the previous vintage. Blackberry, graphite, a saline tang and touches of white pepper towards the finish that fans out nicely. Tasted October 2011.

Chateau Leoville Barton, 2001

St Julien 2eme Cru Classe

** 92 points - Robert Parker ***

Reviews"Consistent from bottle (I tasted it three times), this is an outstanding offering, although not quite at the prodigious level of the 2000. Civilized and approachable for a young Leoville-Barton, it exhibits a saturated plum/purple color along with classic Bordelais aromas of damp earth, creme de cassis, smoke, vanillin, and tobacco. Medium to full-bodied and rich, with high but well-integrated tannin, and a long, 40+ second finish, it should turn out to be a brilliant effort, and one of the stars of the Medoc. However, patience is essential. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2020.

Dolcetto d'Alba, 2001

Sandrone Luciano

A native black grape variety of Northern Italy grown almost exclusively in the provinces of Cuneo and Alessandria in Piedmont. It is relatively easy to cultivate, although it is susceptible to fungal diseases. It ripens before Barbera and Nebbiolo and is often grown in high north-facing sites which would be unsuitable for Nebbiolo. The finest Dolcetto wines come from grapes grown on soils rich with white marls, especially those found on the right bank of the River Tauro. The wines generally are low in tannins and acidity and are usually fruity and fragrant, often with hints of almonds.

Domenico Clerico - Arte

Its deep colour is a reminder of the limited yields of the estate, while the richness of the well defined and elegant aromas tell of a perfect microclimate. All the density and extreme warmth on the palate have been perfectly assimilated by the oak and the finish is almost glossy and endless.

The 2001 Lupicaia, which uses the estate’s best Cabernet and Merlot, is an impenetrable ruby in color, and the powerful, expansive flavors of berry fruit, eucalyptus, and coconut, the dense and shapely palate, and the rich, sensual finish are the attributes of a wine of superior class and caliber.

Quinta do Noval Nacional, 2001

Vintage Port
In luxurious QDN gift Box

Q. Do Noval Director Christian Seeley :
“Although we declared Quinta do Noval Nacional 2001 officially in 2003, we did not release the wine for sale at the time. Nacional is always a powerful concentrated wine, but in its youth the 2001 was extremely backward and quite closed up, dense and very tannic. Since we had just declared and released the 2000 Nacional, we decided to lay down the 250 cases of Nacional 2001 that were produced and keep them back for release at a later date.”

Tom Cannavan:
"The nose of the 2001 Naçional is still sensational in its soaring, floral and Maraschino cherry brightness, the spices and the depth of chocolaty, smooth richness, tar and tobacco nuances and the solidity of the fruit.

Rioja, 2001

CVNE, Imperial Gran Reserva
Magnum 150CL

Hailing from one of the greatest vintages in Spain in the last two decades, this 2001 Gran Reserva is simply impeccable Rioja. The deep berry nose, redolent in spiced blackberries and liquorice, provides a powerful and enticing aroma. Delicate hints of toasty oak with balsamic and vanilla nuances lead to a full and generous palate. The tannins aremature and fine, lending a silkymouthfeel that is both rich and elegant with a very long and lifted finish. An absolute classic with plenty of life in it yet.

Rosso di Montepulciano, 2001

Pancole - Gracciano Svetoni

Montepulciano is a red wine grape variety grown widely in central Italy, most notably its eastern Abruzzo, Marche and Molise regions. The variety was named after the Tuscan parish of Montepulciano, but, confusingly, is not used in the famous wines produced there (see Vino Nobile di Montepulciano). Globally appreciated for their soft flavors, strong color and gentle tannins, Montepulciano wines are typically best consumed in their youth and with food. The deep-purple juice of Montepulciano grapes is used in varying proportions to produce wines under roughly 50 of Italy's DOC and DOCG titles. Although sometimes used on its own,

Sangiovese, 2001

di Toscana, Palazzo al Campo - Spaletti

Good-quality Sangiovese is prized for its high acid, firm tannins and balanced nature. Savoury flavors of dark cherries and black stone fruits are characteristic, and may be backed by secondary notes of tomato leaf and dried herbs. Sangiovese (or Nielluccio in Corsica), a dark-berried vine, is the most widely planted grape variety in Italy. Virtually synonymous with the red wines of Tuscany, and all the romanticism that goes with the territory, Sangiovese is the core constituent in some of the great names in Italian wine.
