Jockey Club Reserve Tawny Port

The Burmester Jockey Club Reserve Tawny Port is a refined and harmonious expression of aged tawny, crafted in honour of a long-standing tradition between Burmester and the prestigious British equestrian circles. This Reserve Tawny sits stylistically between a standard tawny and a 10 Year Old, offering the complexity of extended barrel ageing with the approachability of a younger blend.

Amber in hue with golden reflections, it reveals an elegant bouquet of dried figs, toasted almonds, orange peel, and subtle vanilla from oak maturation. The balance between youthful energy and mellow maturity makes it a sophisticated yet accessible choice for those discovering the world of aged ports.

The Burmester Sotto Voce Reserve Ruby Port is a vibrant, expressive wine that pays tribute to the classic Ruby Port style, enhanced with a touch of extra ageing and finesse. “Sotto Voce” — meaning “in a soft voice” — suggests the wine’s elegance and quiet depth, offering a more polished interpretation of a traditionally bold style. Produced from a blend of premium Douro grape varieties, this Reserve Ruby showcases Burmester’s ability to craft Ports of both structure and charm.

Deep ruby in colour, the wine bursts with aromas of ripe red and black fruits — cherry, plum, and blackberry — laced with subtle notes of violet and dark chocolate.

Tawny Port

This classic Tawny Port from Burmester has a vivid golden-brown colour. The aromas of ripe fruit are abundant on the nose, with appealing notes of vanilla. On the palate it is delightfully fresh with a marked fruity character. Velvety, round and remarkably engaging.

Winemaking:
Hand-picked at the optimum time, the grapes are then destemmed, crushed and converted into wine through a process of careful maceration to extract their colour, tannins and aromas, enhanced by constant churning during fermentation. This takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature (between 28-30°C) until the right degree of sweetness (baumé) is achieved.

Cabernet, 1977

Cantina Soc di Isera

Cabernet, 1977 – Cantina Sociale di Isera

The 1977 vintage in northern Italy was warm and structured, producing wines of firmness and classical balance rather than overt opulence. In Trentino, where Alpine influences temper the growing season, Cabernet has long been cultivated alongside indigenous varieties. Cantina Sociale di Isera, founded in the early 20th century, is recognised for its traditional approach and careful élevage, reflecting the cooperative’s emphasis on regional character and steady maturation. This bottle captures an era when Italian Cabernet was shaped by restraint, extended ageing and patience in the cellar.

Tenuta Sottomonte di Butrio

Cabernet, 1977
Tenuta Sottomonte di Butrio

A fascinating survivor from the late 1970s, this 1977 Cabernet from Tenuta Sottomonte di Butrio offers a rare opportunity to experience mature Italian Cabernet at full tertiary development.

In the glass, the wine shows a soft brick-red core fading to tawny at the rim — a clear sign of graceful ageing. The bouquet is fully evolved and evocative, with aromas of dried cherry, stewed plum and cranberry layered alongside notes of leather, tobacco leaf, cedarwood and autumnal forest floor. There is a gentle savoury edge — hints of dried herbs and sweet spice — that adds complexity and charm.
