Quinta da Devesa, 2000

White Colheita Port in own presentation box

The Quinta da Devesa 2000 White Colheita Port is a beautifully aged single-vintage white port that showcases the elegance and complexity possible in aged white fortified wines. Harvested in 2000 and matured in seasoned oak casks for over two decades, this wine reflects the craftsmanship and patient cellaring philosophy that define Quinta da Devesa’s approach to Colheita production. Made from traditional Douro white grapes—including Côdega de Larinho, Rabigato, Viosinho, and others—this port captures the expressive potential of white varieties in a slow-oxidative style.

Visually, the wine presents a luminous golden amber color with greenish highlights, characteristic of long barrel aging.

Dow's, 2000

Vintage Port, Douro
** 94 Points** Wine Advocate **

**94 Points** Robert Parker
"An opaque blue/purple colour (typical of this vintage's top offerings) is followed by a strikingly provocative aromatic display (flowers, licorice, blackberries, and cassis). This firmly-structured, classic, tightly-knit, restrained port exhibits brilliant purity as well as impressive intensity. While not the most dramatic or flamboyant, it is a beautiful, classically structured port that will age gracefully. Anticipated maturity: 2008-2050." Robert Parker

Taylor Fladgate, 2000

Vintage Port
***98 Points- Wine Advocate***

98 Points (Parker)
98 Points (Wine Journal)

Reviews: "Among the most saturated blue/purple/black-colored examples of the vintage, Taylor's 2000 tastes like a young vintage of Chateau Latour on steroids. Aromas of graphite, blackberry liqueur, creme de cassis and smoke jump from the glass. Spectacularly concentrated and enormously endowed, with sweetness allied to ripe tannin, decent acidity, and layer upon layer of fruit and extract, this is the leading candidate for the port of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2040." Parker, Wine Advocate 2002.

"An opaque black/purple hue. The nose has certainly shut down since tasted a couple of years ago.

Quinta do Vesuvio, 1998

Vintage Port, Douro

Vintage Report:
After a mild June, July and August were hot and dry, leading to good even maturation, with the Tinta Barroca looking particularly promising. Maturation studies carried out between 19th August and the beginning of the vintage, determined the following picking order at Vesuvio: Old vineyards; Tinta Barroca; Tinta Amarela; Tinta Roriz; Touriga Nacional; Tinto Cão; and Touriga Franca. Picking began on the 21nd September and continued until 4th October; great care being taken to select and vinify the very best fruit separately, once perfect ripeness had been achieved. Grape quality was very good with average sugar readings an excellent 12o-13o Baumé.

Warre's Vintage Port, 1997

Vintage Port, Douro

Warre’s Vintage Port 1997 is a beautifully structured, classic wine from an excellent declared vintage. The 1997 Ports were initially somewhat overshadowed by the blockbuster 1994s, but over time, many—including Warre’s—have proven themselves to be elegant, long-lived, and deeply satisfying, especially for those who appreciate more refined, aromatic Ports.

True to Warre’s house style, the 1997 vintage leans into finesse over sheer power. In the glass, it typically shows a deep ruby color, with only slight signs of age around the rim. The nose is expressive, offering violets, dark cherries, blackberries, and subtle floral and herbal tones, followed by secondary notes like cedar, cocoa, and warm spice.

Known to be a woman gifted with exceptional energy and a rare commercial talent, she managed to give a great boost to viticulture in the Douro and develop a notable social welfare activity in the region.

Warre's Vintage Port, 1978

Quinta da Cavadinha Vintage Port

The 1978 Warre Cavadinha is the first release from this estate after it was purchased by the Symington family in 1978. The late ripening cycle of this estate dictates the style of Cavadinha Ports; they are fresh, elegant and have very fine aromas and now form the backbone of Warre’s Vintage Port.

Old vines make up a very high proportion of the vineyard, consequently these wines are dark and concentrated, but the south easterly aspect and higher altitude results in a very elegant style. The wines from the lower vineyards that border the Pinhão River are tannic, dark purple-red and concentrated but have superb aromas of tea-rose and violets.

Dow's, 1977

Vintage Port- MAGNUM
Presented in Dows Wooden Gift Case

Please note that this is a rare magnum format (1.5 L)
Medium cranberry red center and slight bricking on the edge. Intoxicating floral fragrance that filled the room, during its nine hour decant; accented by anise, plum and raspberry notes and a bit of spirit. Fresh, fleshy grape, dark cherry and fig flavors melded with underpinnings of licorice, chocolate and warming spirit. It's developing into a stunning middle-aged Port at 34 years of age, with little signs of nearing peak yet. Rich and multi-faceted, smooth and velvety ... even more so the second day it was opened. The acidity was near perfect and the tannins are tame but omnipresent; while the finish was spicy, warm and extremely long.

Ferreira, 1977

Vintage port

Reviews
Very pale mahogany red, watery in texture and weak rim. On the nose are cranberries and brown sugar with just a touch of sweet pea perfume. Wonderful sweetness in the mouth, with golden sultanas over the tart dried cranberries. The tartness is lovely and balances out the sweetness of the wine very well. There is so much complexity in the mid-palate that you can hold this wine in your mouth for ages, but eventually you have to swallow. And when you do there is an explosion of flavour which, after a brief flare of heat, works itself into a very long black licorice and aniseed aftertaste.

Fonseca Port, 1977

Vintage Port
Excellent provenance

Fonseca is one of the great port lodges, producing the most exotic and most complex port. If Fonseca lacks the sheer weight and power of a Taylor, Dow or Warre, or the opulent sweetness and intensity of a Graham, it excels in its magnificently complex, intense bouquet of plummy, cedary, spicy fruit and long, broad, expansive flavors. With its lush, seductive character, one might call it the Pomerol of Vintage ports. When it is young, it often loses out in blind tastings to the heavier, weightier, more tannic wines, but I always find myself upgrading my opinion of Fonseca after it has had 7-10 years of age.

Healthy ruby with a brick rim. Quite subtle already; there is some perceptible evolution of colour and flavour here. Mineral rather than fruit flavours dominate. Very big and full. This is not a wine to be ignored! But it's a very particular style....without enormous tannic reserves. Jancis Robinson

Fonseca Port, 1976

Guimaraens Vintage Port

REVIEWS:
1976 Fonseca Guimaraens Vintage Port - The color of this was amazing dark, being solid black with a tawny colored rim around the outside. I can’t ever remember seeing a color like this on this old VP. The nose was very gummy and thick with a floral aspect similar to the elderberry flower. Very reducted on the palate with thick tar, raisins, and green stems. Yet it was still tannic at the same time. The finish was moderate with a rich mint aspect to it. While good in its own right, served blind this could have easily been mistaken for a lighter style PX Sherry. An extremely dry winter was followed by a hot summer causing springs and wells to dry up for the first time in living memory.

Taylor Fladgate, 1976

Late Bottled Vintage Port

Late Bottled Vintage port is from a single year. The wine ages 4-6 years in old oak casks (opposed to Vintage that ages 2-3). LBV fills the gap between the rubies and the vintage ports since a Ruby Port should be drunk quite young and a great Vintage Port may need 15 to 20 years to really open up and show its splendour. This led to the idea in the 1960s to age the wine 4 to 6 years in large casks before bottling it.

LBV's display the style of a Vintage Port with its deep colour and concentration of fruit but with a more mature character caused by the longer ageing in wood.

Sandeman

50 Year Old Tawny Port
***95 Points- GOLD- Decanter 2023***

Beautiful pale tawny in colour. The 50-Year-Old Tawny is exceptionally pronounced and complex in aroma profile. Intense aromas of dried fruits, roasted walnuts, toffee and spice burst out of the glass. Velvety smooth on the palate, with a bright acidity keeping the decadent flavours on the straight and narrow and all culminating in a deliciously lingering finish.

There are few more iconic images in the world of wine than the ‘Don’, the logo created for the Sandeman family in 1928 by George Massiot Brown. The cape was modelled on the attire worn by university students in Porto, while the wide-brimmed hat was a nod to the family’s presence in Jerez.

Fonseca Port, 1973

Crusted Port - Bottled in 1973
Badly Damaged labels

A very rare bottle of 1973 crusted port.

Crusted Port is a very small category, named because of the 'crust' of sediment that it forms in the bottle. Invented by the British-owned Port houses predominantly for the British Port drinker, it is intended to be a more economical alternative to Vintage or Late Bottled Vintage. Crusted is a blend of several harvests, which are bottled without being filtered and laid down to mature like Vintage wines. Using this approach allows the manufacturer to use some of the lesser harvests but still produce a good rich full bodied wine at an economical price.
