Taylor Fladgate, 2007

Quinta de Vargellas Vinha Velha Vintage Port, Douro
***96/100- Falstaff****

The 2007 Taylor Vargellas Vinha Velha is a more introverted Taylor’s Vintage, an earthy bouquet with touches of orange essence developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins, good backbone, quite reserved and composed at the moment. This is not a flamboyant Vinha Velha, but there is a very attractive, slightly biscuity quality towards the finish. Superb. The Vinha Vehla are five plots located in the heart of Quinta de Vargellas. The vines being between 80 and 120 years of age. Strict selection has led to a wine of stunning complexity, power and richness. This is one that will be at its peak 50 years hence.

Warre's Vintage Port, 2007

Vintage Port, Douro

93 Points - Wine Advocate.

"The 2007 Warre Vintage Port is one of the stars of the vintage. A glass-coating opaque purple color, it displays an expressive bouquet of Asian spices, incense, lavender, blackberry, and fruitcake. Plush on the palate with outstanding volume, it exhibits a sense of elegance as well as power. Savory flavors, plenty of structure for the long haul, and a lengthy, fruit-filled finish suggests two decades of cellaring are in order. This superb effort should still be drinking well in 2050." Barros Port, 2005

Vintage Port, Douro
Includes Barros gift box

The Barros 2005 vintage port has a very solid, vivid crimson colour and a nose that is rather spirity at first, with a fresh, almost herbal edge to bright raspberry and vinous fruit, in a style that immediately suggests this is a lighter, more fresh style of Port. On the palate there is plenty of sweetness, with cassis and ripe, sweet liquidised cherry, but also a touch of raisin and date-like fruit. A certain silky, vanilla and thick plum underpinning emerges into the finish, but so does some quite grippy tannin and again a slightly spiritous edge in a wine that perhaps will become a little more harmonious with time in bottle.
